I had the absolute fear we'd be starting this season with a midfield of Crawford, Maguire & an unfit Donnelly with a very, very raw Cornelius as the only backup and relying on Lamie (who has actually been fairly sound when called upon this season tbf). Please see also Mugabi. I wish I had never seen his first three games for us. I still get the fear when I see him in the lineup. But has he actually let us down over the past 12 months?

I think he almost gets shown as the nice guy/having a laugh guy but there's been some games the guy is a monster at the back. When he's on a game he's definitely a more than serviceable player at this level.

Ultimately if you force a team into needing to take shots from 20+ yards then that's no bad thing. Now at some point someone will put one into the top corner but I suppose it's averages innit. I've assumed that is the thinking behind playing 7 centre halfs when we're winning with 15 mins to go - a team might do something great and score anyway or we might make a big mistake but the chances are low. On Bevis - he's getting picked ahead of everyone save the culturally Scandinavians so that tells its own story. I though he was a big reason that we defended our box so well against Aberdeen.

To that point, here's the shot map from the Aberdeen and Rangers games. Of Aberdeen's 7 shots on target 5 of them were from the edge of the box or further. Of Rangers' 7 shots on target 4 were from the edge of the box or further(and the one they scored was offside). All shots in the spoiler. Aberdeen 13 of 21 outside the box. Rangers 13 of 24 outside the box. Spoiler Edited September 21, 2021 by capt_oats

Jim McLean's Ghost
how can there even be a doubt we had the best transfer window. We have brought in 6 starters who are a significant upgrade to what we had (except Kelly who is the same... obviously) Listened to @thisGRAEME point about us not missing Campbell and I mostly agree. I don't think there is a Campbell shaped hole in out midfield and Slattery isn't a replacement for Campbell either. I just think that the way Alexander sets up the front 3 it takes something away from what Campbell does in a pressing game so he wasn't as effective last season which means his absence isn't felt as much. Slattery is a ball playing midfielder who can play in tight areas and can get in about it. Genuinely can't think of a midfielder for us who had those combination of talents. If he starts to score goals too... My other take away from the podcast is that James Scott shouldn't model his game on Christian Doidge but Kevin Van Veen. Tall, rangy, comfortable on the wing but still intent on being a threat in the box.

Absolutely. Happy to admit I was more than sceptical around the time of the Airdrie debacle, but the core of the team that Alexander has put in place is starting to look like some very astute business. A spine of Kelly in goals, the two Scandinavian gods at centre back, Slattery in the middle, and big mental Kev up front is as solid a window as I can remember. All obviously well scouted and researched. Going back to Robinson times, the vast majority were punts and for every Johnson or Kipre, who was a real gamble himself, there were another 10 absolutely useless jobbers fired straight back into the sea. There will be far less wastage and turnover this time round (the bold and unseen Mich'el aside). I may well be (probably) wide of the mark, but with both Rangers and Celtic being poor so far, this has the feeling of a cup winning side to me either this year or next. Even Rangers Goal would have been cleared if he didn't get the advantage of being offside. It may jot be pretty but when has scottish football ever been a pretty game? Gianfranco
I’m not jumping on the hype train just yet. Steelmen will be mental when we lose a few games with the way we’re currently playing.I hope the Scandinavian gods are as good as we think they are. I also hope the fees were low.

I would normally be more cautious at this stage - but after the absolute fucking purgatory of last season, it's just nice to be excited about the team again, so f**k it - we're massive. Also - I want draw the thread's attention to item 6 on the Bread section of the menu of the indian I had - could be popular in some quarters
