Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

Recommended Posts

Some sort of SPFL TV archive of classic games, highlights and other stuff. A minefield for rights I’d imagine but would be well worth a subscription to. The Netflix of fitba.

Edit: aye, basically what Graeme says. Make it happen.

Visions of @thisGRAEME being trapped under a pile of VHS tapes somewhere in the depths of Hampden.

This honestly isn't far from the truth (but Digi betamax rather than VHS, so even bigger and chunkier tapes). I'll send a picture next time I'm in.

Have any WS members received a newsletter recently? Used to receive them weekly via email, but haven't received anything in a while.

To circle back to this, that's a mailshot from the WS landed in my inbox.

Also confirms they've appointed the new Society development manager so well done everyone on getting that sorted.

Bit of recruitment chat in Alexander's press conference today it seems.

Quote

"We scout lots of players," said Alexander. "I won't speak about any individuals specifically unless we've signed them, but we've spoke to a lot of players.

"That's not just in Ireland - that's in England, Scotland and abroad. January is an important time but we are just trying to focus on our games.

"The Irish season is just about to end and there will be a lot of speculation about a lot of players over there - agents are brilliant at that. But we'll see what January brings.

"I could give you a long list of players we'll be linked with in the next six or seven weeks."

"With our recruitment during the summer, we looked everywhere," explained Alexander. "As long as they have the right attributes for what a Motherwell player should be, we'll try and sign them."

Obviously the LOI Cup Final has ramped up a whole lot of press this week for our lad Tierney (amongst others).  Agents looking to get their out of contract guys a move and the Brexit factor meaning that Ireland has got the market cornered. No work permits and paperwork required to take a punt on an Irish lad.

I'm mildly paranoid that Tierney will have a good cup final and get pinched from us - don't like all the "signed for Motherwell" chat and I won't relax until the big twitter reveal :)

Ha! Same. I kind of found it weird that Alexander was talking about him in the way he was a while back but in the same press conference turns round and says:

Quote

“We had an agreement with Bohemians that we would allow him to finish the season over in Ireland.

“He is an exciting young player who will come in and enhance our firepower and our quality.

“It’s been a long one, and it’s still not over the line as he still isn’t here yet.

“But we are delighted that he is coming to join us."

Then again I also noticed he's actually locked in as signing for us on January 1st in FM22. Which is pretty much as official as it gets.

The look on Alexander's face when the boy asks him whether 3rd is a "realistic finish this season" btw.

Incidentally this is unrelated to the Alexander interview but another smashing interview with Tierney.

What do you say after a performance like today? As Jekyll and Hyde a side as you are ever likely to watch.

For all the things we did right last week in comfortably dispatching Hearts, we went out today and did the exact opposite. Last week we worked a high press and harried Hearts from the first whistle. Never gave them a second on the ball and dictated the tempo of the game, both through our play and game management (or shithousing if you prefer).

Today we were on the back foot right from the off.  Slack, weak, passive, all manner of failings, and if it weren't for Kelly it could have been even more embarrassing. It's not the first time in Alexander's tenure that we've picked up a result or two then fallen off a cliff in the next game, but how do you explain it? Is it complacency going into a game against a perceived weaker team after beating a couple of sides above them in the table, or is it simply that despite our current league position, we're just not very good? Only a couple of days to fund some answers before Utd come calling.

As much as it’s the most Motherwell thing ever to lose a game we had more potential to win than the previous 2 that we actually did, That was a genuinely embarrassing showing today in every way imaginable. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I wouldn’t believed it was possible for us to be so much the polar opposite of last Saturday.

Was Goss missing really that much of a factor?

Are we back to “where is the next win coming from?”
