Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

Recommended Posts

As it stands:

GK: Kelly, Oxborough
DF: O'Donnell, Lamie, McGinn, Blaney, Johnston
MF: Spittal, Slattery, Cornelius, Tierney, Goss, Miller
FW: Van Veen, Crankshaw, Danzaki, McKinstry

Injured: Carroll, Mugabi, McGinley, Efford, Mandron, Morris (?)

I mean, seriously what's the script with Morris? Is he injured or...?

The nick of that haha. Full first team defence made up of 3 right backs and 2 centre halves, one of whom is an unknown quantity making a step Up from LOI and the other is Ricki Lamie. What a state to get yourself into with 3 hours of the January window left.

That squad deserves relegated. Not a chance we're sorting it in a couple of hours.

100% fucked or 100% fit, he's as much use to us either way. Absolute drain on resources whose wage could have been the difference to getting a decent addition in to boost our options and chances of survival.

Just seen St Johnstone team posted on their thread. Probably includes youngsters but they now have a squad of 34 players inc 5 out and out forwards. Umpteen midfielders. Compare and contrast that with the depth of our squad. As much as Sol, Shields and Maguire are not or should not be starters it would be silly to get rid of them if we have no replacements.

Hammell said he wants players with the right attitude and fit for the team. A team of nice players will serve us well in the championship. I would rather not have Lafferty nor Watt but on their day they are both very decent players and would help us in our current predicament.

At least Barry Maguire and Connor Shields will have a good few months experience in the Championship. Should prove useful for our title tilt next season.

Anxious wait for Motherwell fans

Award for the most anxious support of the night? It probably goes to Motherwell fans. There's been a need for reinforcements ever since Steven Hammell took over in August, and the Well boss has been backed so far in the window.

However, more movement was expected within Fir Park. As of yet today, it's all in one direction. While fans won't be overly traumatised at the loss of Connor Shields, Sondre Solholm being sold will raise a few eyebrows, as well as glances to rapidly-refreshing Twitter feeds to see who will be coming in. Three hours to go...

It doesn't.

30 senior players, ignoring the 4+ youngers players who've returned from lower league loans, plus loanees we have out.

Its all well and good saying the squad looks strong, but theres absolutely zero way we're not just haemorrhaging money.

More the 'or'. Private needs to remain private but the club could have said something about Morris and Toby to stop the wondering and rumouring.

Can Wee Max play defensive mid?

I think most of the (non-head banging) element of our support accepted we'd always get relegated eventually - it's just par for the course being our size.

But the hook to that acceptance was being well run at the time and it just being our year. In the last 12ish months we've had:

the pointless extension to Alexander

rumours about Watt's departure (perhaps not true, obviously)

the farce of moving the Rangers game at short-notice

binning a manager two days before the season

the rumours about not backing above manager

the perception of making a cheap/easy appointment

poor communication on how urgent the pitch investment was

key positions (head of media) going unfilled all season

Burrows quitting without any public explanation (six months after Lasley, a potential replacement, left)

millions in the bank saved for a rainy day when it's currently pissing down

And that's before we get into the details of obvious failings on the pitch not being addressed.

Now, some elements of the above may not be fair but there is an almost overwhelming perception (which is what matters when dealing with thousands of football fans, again fair not) that the wheels are well and truly off the applecart.

Being run smoothly and going down would at least give the hope of a quick(ish) return...at the current rate we seem be utterly imploding and you seriously doubt it can be fixed in summer, should the worst happen.
