The way I see it £20 is bugger all when you look at what you'd spend in circa 6 hours in the boozer. Sure some are dugshite but that's life, you pay for any kind of entertainment you run the risk it's a stinker, especially in sport. Some may think that's me endorsing Hearn ripping off causal fans but as I say I enjoy getting a few beers in and enjoying a few fights without getting off my fat arse. I'd draw the line at what fans in the States are asked to pay though which is outrageous in comparison. £20 is decent value imo all things considered. Im the exact same mate. Ill watch most ppv events as i love boxing. Perfect example. I spent about £240 on a night out at the Josh Taylor fight with the boys last Saturday and had to watch the main events on YouTube next day as I was too hammered to remember much more than who won.

I don't mind paying for them if it's a great card or a great fight, the problem is over here the vast majority of them are shit cards with headlining fights that should really be headlining Saturday Fight Night cards. Sky and Matchroom have made millions from PPV shows and none of it is being reinvested. Hearn said last year that he wanted every Saturday show on regular Sky to be headlined by a World title fight, their hasn't been a mens World title fight on a regular Saturday night Sky show since last November and there isn't on scheduled. The American prices are ridiculous but for the most part they get great fights on their PPVs. Half the cards the Americans get on Showtime, HBO and some of the Fox and Espn cards would be on PPV if they were over here.
mylothedog
Just a wee quick mention for Ricky Burns who's fighting on the undercard. He may be past it but that swings the £20 outlay for me. Burns and Bellew. What's not to like?

He's a unique talent, very special. I agree that a lot of British promoters move their fighters too slowly, particularly the 'dominant' promoters - Warren did it when he was top of the heap, now Hearn is doing it. However, not every boxer is going to be able to step up their competition the way that Taylor has. Horse for courses and all that. No I get that - wasn't comparing them as fighters as such. Just highlighting how quickly Taylor has progressed against someone who Hearn claims is going to be a top star.
kiddy
Fair point, well made! I was going to say fight of this magnitude but wanted to state all the belts were involved as well. Was just reading earlier Bellew is still WBC ‘emeritus’ champ for all that’s worth. I expect, and hope, the man taking in all the belts will be taking them home as well. Isn't Vitali WBC 'Emeritus' heavyweight champion?
Boostin' Kev
Super A is bang on with his posts. Got to hand it to Hearn he knows how to milk a casual. Someone earlier saying he's looking after his fighters. He completely sold Brook down the river with that GGG fight after Eubank Jr turned it down, that fight shouldn't have been sanctioned. He had Conor Benn second top billing or close on some PPV card at the start of his career, he's no shame whatsoever putting a raw kid in a position like that, but his surname gets Hearn more cash so what does it matter? Been lolling at Eddie having to wheel his old boy out the broom cupboard since the announcement of Wilder - Fury they've been having a PR nightmare recently.

quickoverayard
I'm whacking a wad on Usyk on points and a few quid on the Bellew stoppage. Think I'll be doing the same. Can't see usyk stopping him and only way bellew wins is a stoppage.

Shandon Par
I don't recall any definitive WBSS talk prior to Taylor v Postol but Shane McGuigan was saying the other day that they knew before the fight that the winner would be entering the WBSS (end even in the interviews days after the fight Taylor said he didn't know what was next for him). It makes Taylor's determination to win that fight even more impressive, given the stakes (and why Postol looked in such great shape). And maybe explains the scorecards

And maybe explains the scorecards I’m sure it was mentioned by one of the Sauerland brothers before the Postol fight, that the winner of that would be invited into the Super Series. Postol was on the undercard and also a reserve incase any of the fighters pulled out.
pittsburgh phil
Is anyone giving Bellew a puncher's chance tonight? Can't see it myself. Undercard looks fairly decent if unspectacular.
