johnoswald2712
Honestly think it’s a dereliction of duty not to have another goalkeeper signed. Whether that falls on Levein, McPherson or Webb doesn’t matter. It is clear that Rae does not have good enough handling to play at the top level. Decent enough when blocking the ball in one on ones but overall suspect at shot stopping and crosses. Anyone that’s played the game knows that having a good goalie gives the rest of the team confidence but defenders are more likely to make rash decisions if they are trying to protect the guy between the sticks
Steve McQueen
Matthews didnt make many/any real howlers but were a lot of 'could have done better'.

Matthews got away with a lot because folk liked him and there were many others at the club/in the squad worthy of more criticism than him. The smallest pile of dog shit is still a pile of dog shit. You are slavering. What is all this nice guy nonsense? Matthews was just a steady goalkeeper who came in and did a job. As said earlier, he made the saves you expected him to make without pulling off many spectacular ones to keep you in matches in the style of Mitov. With an hour or two to go in the transfer window, when signing another Mitov is not going to happen, would Saints fans prefer Matthews to what we’ve seen of Rae so far.. I’d guess yes. Hopefully the manager has someone else out of contract up his sleeve.
Radford
At least after a bad weekend, Rae was able to come in and go through it with his coach before having a good week's training...

Radford
This squad must be costing so much less than last season. Booth, Gordon, May and Kane got post-double renewals. Crawford and Gallacher came in during the January 2022 splurge and were followed in the summer by Considine and McGowan, then Phillips. Mitov is away and we got £300k. Jaiyesimi, Richards and Robinson having wages covered. Ballantyne and Wills give you 15 outs, not including other loans, with more maybe to come. The arrivals? Ikpeazu and Holt are senior players and Cameron has a wage to cover. Nothing else looks like it's breaking the bank. SURELY the finances are coming back under control now?
RandomGuy.
Do wonder if McClelland, Olufunwa, and Matt Smith, are on more than expected. Edited August 31 by RandomGuy.

I'd say that this has pretty much all just brought the finances back under control. Got to keep in mind that for a long time we had a very settled squad, so no massive jumps in wages and less signing on feels than we will have been paying. Personally, I'd prefer a small core squad with higher wages supplemented by youths, but even now, I'd argue we are one or two too many core players. Need to factor too that we have paid small fee for Kirk, which even if 25-30k, is possibly half a seasons wage for a player. I don't think we are done signing players and next week, we will see 3/4 heading out on loan.

Eric Nicolson said no fee, Hearts just a cut of any future fee.

Matt Smith I’d expect to be at the higher end of our wage scale, purely based on where he came from and he had a decent reputation.
Kyle
Clearly a hugely diminished budget for Levein to use this summer, the irony of course being you'd trust him to spend a big budget well and not just fill it with your mates' clients and players who were excellent in 2014. edit: not just the cup game, we also had over 9000 fans at the Aberdeen game (allegedly) Edited August 31 by Kyle

It has been clear for a number of weeks that Rae is not yet ready to be No 1. I do feel sorry for Rae, having come in when the goalkeeping coach situation has been all over the place - no continuity and building up relationship has not helped. Add to that Rae, following in the footsteps of Mannus, Clark and Mitov! Perhaps a goalkeeper will emerge on free transfers but would then question the quality, or lack of, if dipping into the free market. Given where we are in terms of Rae's poor form, there must be a consideration for Sinclair to be given a chance - he must be on the bench thinking what else he has to do to be given a chance. However, doing this will only lower the confidence of Rae, were we needing to call on him again as No 1 in near future. Difficult situation. Motherwell will have watched last week's game so know exactly what their game plan will be for Rae today...

RandomGuy.
Fair play to Webb if hes doing that, and its a shame its when we seem to be having 1 home game every month. Getting folk into the habit of going is probably the big first step.

DavidReid01
Rae apparently on the pitch warming up with other goalies. Possibly Levein feels taking him out the firing line could be best for him?
Muirton Saint
Just watched Leveins pre match interview and he said nothing of Rae being injured.
