Brexit slowly becoming a Farce.

An unelected cabal of right wing fanatics take over the government, then signals its intention to suspend parliamentary democracy to force through a hugely divisive advisory referendum result, predicated upon lies, dirty money, social media manipulation and greed. You really couldn’t make it up. Dystopian fiction now reads like dewy-eyed optimism; satire is rendered redundant as even the most acerbic and cynical wits can’t keep pace with the ever-metastasising evil of populism: a toxic miasma of ever-shifting lies, deceit and untruths driven by unseen operators. It seems insufficient to merely proclaim that Britain is dead. The zombie carcass, in league with other dark forces throughout the globe, is still capable of inflicting great damage, and not only upon itself.

While much of what you say is True, it shouldn't be forgotten that decades of "lies", "dirty money", "media manipulation" and "greed" have probably led us to Brexit in the first place.

It was under the watch of New Labour and the similarly right leaning Democrats under Clinton and Obama who accelerated the wealth gap, pandered to the super rich and basically betrayed the very people that they were supposed to be representing.

There really is no "good guys" in this whole debacle............

In reality the Queen can do nothing but accept the PMs advice regardless of how batshit it is.

Bit from @Ad Lib 's piece here.

Quote

The prorogation of Parliament is a prerogative act, exercised by the
Crown on the advice of the Privy Council. In practice, this advice is given
by Ministers of the Crown.
Whether the Crown must always follow Ministerial advice in the context
of prorogation is contested but has not, in modern times, been tested in
the United Kingdom.
In other Westminster systems the prorogation power has been explicitly
understood as a “reserve power”: that is, a power reserved to the head
of state which may be exercised without approval by another branch of
government. Although advice is taken from the relevant Premier, it need
not be followed, and has not necessarily been.
Were a UK Government to lose (or were to appear to be about to lose)
the confidence of the Commons, it is not clear whether prorogation
advice from Ministers would automatically be followed. This question
has not been tested in the UK in modern times but was tested in
Canada (in late 2008).

Ok interesting. But if opposition MPs raise a VonC next week and lose the country hasn't a leg to stand on. If they win, general election anyway.

I can't see a scenario where the Queen rejects the PM's advice here.

If Brexit does get become a NO Deal disaster I would blame Corbyn as much as anyone else.

The ineptitude of this "so called leader" really beggars belief.

I think I would definitely blame Boris Johnson more, seeing as he's the guy actively trying to bulldozer a no deal through.

It wouldn't have got this far if there had been an effective opposition in place.

National holiday or two I'd expect!  (Obvs RIP etc)

I just wonder if it would bring all this shite to a shuddering halt for a while.

She should do the honourable thing.

Also a couple of holidays would be decent.

I don't think she's allowed to.
