Looks like a “cake and eat it” approach on goods, agriculture and fisheries and services.  I will be astounded if the EU27 will accept that in any substantive way.  It still looks like May is assuming our trade with the EU is of sufficient importance to them that they will bend over backwards to accommodate us; I just don’t see that happening.
The bits on the Irish border are wishful thinking.

What bits on the Irish border??? She just kept repeating no hard border; when challenged about there having to be some forms of border... she just shouted no hard border.

The bits in her speech about the border; those bits.

The civil servants will be working to a govt brief. You try delivering advice to that cabinet. You'll need several personalities.

What bit.. about the alignment. Going for option 1??? No different from Florence speech. Option 2??? Technology. She has nothing, it's impossible for her to have anything. NO HARD BORDER. There was nothing except a wish list about some form of alignment; businesses in UK paying tariffs; oh and no HARD BORDER.

This fortnights Private Eye has a good piece on the farce that is the Department for Exiting the EU (DExEU). Highlights include officials being "outgunned" by Barnier's team in negotiations, leaks from top to bottom, May's Brexit adviser is left in the negotiating room with no mandate, 3% of officials are leaving every month and nearly half (44%) want to leave in the next year, the 600 strong team still has 143 vacancies to fill and most staff are short term loanees from other parts of the civil service (health and so on) so they are woefully ill equipped for the role.

So May comes across as ridiculously ill prepared because 1) she is; and 2) her DExEU is a complete mess. Of course to cover all this up we get these "Brexit means Brexit" speeches every so often to try and placate leavers and the right wing nutters in her party. It's a total front but one that she needs to put on to try and keep herself in a job.

It's "ambitious managed divergence" now.

A Unionist certainly. A typical britnat? Define that. Regards getting off before it happens. I'm afraid not. We voted to stay part of the union, so we go as a union.
