Distant Doonhamer
Trump just tweeted that he will not be going to the inauguration There's presumably an expectation (even obligation?) for the the out-going President to attend. Simplest solution to take away any such expectation or obligation is for him to resign.

Arse covering. I get the impression his aides have finally got the message through to him that he isn't coming out of this well. Even if he doesn't accept it, they're savvy enough to realise how badly this has tarnished his legacy. You'll notice that other than the lie about "Immediately calling out the National Guard." he stayed pretty much on script for possibly the first time ever. 1 hour ago, welshbairn said: Arse covering, his aides finally convinced him he was in serious shit, especially after the cop died. This. Encouraging acts of insurrection in which a polis dies is never a good look for a right-wing politician. 42 minutes ago, Distant Doonhamer said: There's presumably an expectation (even obligation?) for the the out-going President to attend. No obligation but definitely an expectation. He will be the fourth president to have skipped it and the first in 150 years. Fucking man-child. There is still a hard-core group who will continue to defend him no matter (quite literally) WHAT he does . They're still hurling abuse on Social Media and blaming everyone but him. They're mostly at the point-and-laugh stage now though. The conservatives I know are keeping their heads down as if they want to pretend none of this happened. For me; this is the perfect end to this farce of a presidency. One of only 10 sitting presidents to have failed to win re-election. He lost the Presidency, The Senate and Congress, after the Republicans held all 3 when he came to office. Only 4 presidents have done that before and none since the Great Depression. Given his narcissism and chronic insecurity, that must be painful for him. And then this nonsense over the last few days is just the icing on the cake. He won't be leaving in handcuffs as I had hoped, but he will end his presidency in defeat, disaster and disgrace. For someone like him, that's even better. NotThePars
He does have a habit of coming out with a reasonable on script statement or speech which he immediately contradicts or doubles down on the worst parts of hours or days later so we’ve plenty of time for him to get control of his Twitter account and kick off during Fox and Friends. Shotgun
Maybe someone could give the FBI a call and let them know the next attempted coup will be on January 19th. They could just be there instead of asking us all to ID people after the fact...much more efficient. But, but, but...liberals are the real fascists!

Shotgun
CNN now saying they have copies of the Articles of Impeachment, which may be submitted as early as Monday. This will make shithead the first president to have been impeached twice. The White House response is to snivel that it's politically motivated and will only further divide our great country. Too bad the scum didn't care about all the times he divided our great country with the hateful rhetoric and lies he's been spewing for the last 4 years.
paul-r-cfc
Why do politicians always dismiss things as politically motivated? It's politics. They're politicians. Politics is their job. Everything is politically motivated.

It's really easy to join these groups where they organise and they don't do it with any subtlety at all. There's absolutely no chance that the authorities didn't know this was happening.

Thankfully the denial remains largely peaceful protest. What a massive load of pish. Either you're breathtakingly stupid or you're at it. No one has denied the results of those referendums (save for one or two mentalists).
