Replay this Wednesday. That's a bit soon.

We might be treated to it live on Sky, assuming the next game isn't a draw.

It basically has to be this midweek.

For some reason, out of all the weeks SPFL could have chosen, the following week - that usually used for replays - has a full Premiership card and the midweek after that directly precedes R5.

Our first half performance, incidentally, shows exactly why the home fans couldn't be arsed turning up today. Even with a decent second half where we could've won, we haven't won in our last 10 and have mustered only 4 goals.

All said and done, a replay is a good result for us - we can certainly do with the money.

Well, the Cup rules stipulate that the default date for a replay is the second midweek following the original tie. A different date requires the agreement of both clubs and the SFA.

And as we know, Cup games trump league games.

So presumably if at least one party hadn't agreed to this midweek, Hearts v (The) Rangers would have been postponed?

It's possible that 3 our back 4 will be making their debuts, with one of those being 37, one of them not having played since June and the other one most likely being a bit shite.

I'm more worried about the attacking side of things though. With Paterson, Nicholson and Djoum missing we desperately need Walker and/or Johnsen to be on form or we're fucked. Martin looks like he might have goals in him but apparently he doesn't have much pace.

We're always shite after a break too. Getting a draw, allowing us to sign a couple of forwards before the replay, wouldn't be a total disaster IMO.

Although the replay is on Wednesday apparently so we'll probably have to make do with what we have. What a laugh that'll be.

You are correct as regards the rules... but in recent seasons it's become more "fluid", and indeed there have even been a couple cases of replays being played later than they should have been to avoid disrupting Premiership games, IIRC. Given Hearts-Rangers is presumably a sell-out and is live on TV you'd imagine that Hearts and the authorities certainly didn't want it a week on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Either way it just seems odd to me to pick that midweek for a Premiership card, as they could have chosen this midweek or the following one?

Saturday: Paying £20 to watch your rivals play a pub team and leaving early.
Sunday: Thrashing your maggot for an opposition player coming on and him setting up an equaliser 10 minutes later.

Saturday: paid £20 to watch your side pump a pub side.
Sunday: thrashed your maggot because your rivals drew.
Monday: still a league below said rivals.
Some weekend lad.

Absolutely (on both points).

It's definitely in Hearts' interest to not postpone their league game. However, surely Raith Rovers would have been within their rights to say "actually, no, we want the prescribed 10-day gap to prepare" and little could be done about it?

Rudi the man who has more Scottish Cup winning medals than any player in Hibs history, I forgive you for not understanding our adulation for the legend.^_^

Fair result in the end. Hearts better team in 1st half and Raithby had the better of the 2nd half.

Money spinning replay at Tynecastle for a Rudi winner in a 1-0 win for the Jam Tarts.....

Would the replay date not be agreed before the game? It seemed to be news to Cathro that it was this week. Seems odd that it was sorted out in the five minutes between the game ending and him speaking on tv.

A draw was about right - we had the best of the first half, and Raith were the better side in the second - lining up a money-spinning replay.

It's usually agreed before the game, modulo potential TV coverage.

Actually, it would be have been interesting had we been a little less shite yesterday and managed to force a replay.

We play Aberdeen on Friday and although Tuesday-Friday is fine in terms of the usual gap, I'm not sure we'd have been happpy about ageeing to such a move, espcially with the possibility of extra time and penalties.

Moot obviously, but just shows the absurdity of it all.
