New clubs in the East of Scotland

More speculation to provoke some enjoyable discussion!

I heard some dodgy buggers in Crail were gonna make a brand new club, called Borussia East Neuk, and apply next year but, really, it was all a scam to get the funding to help with the licensing application and were gonna spend it all on a "Lads Weekend" at a caravan park in Anstruther with some of Lochgelly's finest working girls bussed in for the occasion.

The SFA got wind of it and that's the real reason for the licensing embargo.

It was all so believable, then you had to spoil it.

That's the thing. The SFA never put the embargo up because of the fraud but for public health reasons.

Well when will the SFA lift the 'embargo' ? Are any SFA Licensing Committee meetings scheduled to meet soon ?

Apparently there will be changes to the licensing requirements to make them more stringent, expect an announcement soon says this poster on NLM https://nonleaguematters.co.uk/forum/gforum.cgi?post=899149#899149

Think it is obvious that is pretty much the inevitable outcome of 160 former junior clubs charging over the horizon all at once towards a club licensing scheme that has set the bar low enough for the likes of Golspie Sutherland to still get in. What's not so clear is whether this guy has any inside info or is just predicting what is likely to happen.

Can they get away with that last bit when it's constantly being reviewed? Don't think so. Also, think that guy is being a bit pessimistic where new clubs are concerned.  They don't need to be all that much more stringent to put it beyond reach of most of the NRSJFA and smaller district clubs in the east and west without causing the likely tier 6 promotion challengers any insurmountable challenges. If they go overboard on this to the extent Bo'ness and Bonnyrigg have an issue it will also cause major problems for a lot of Lowland and Highland league clubs. Best to wait and see.

Well Golspie are in for historic reasons. Dunno if they would be able to get a license if they applied now would they?

They did get a licence within the last few years. They put up some cover to comply.

Girvan were the same if i remember, although historically an SFA member, they still had to go through the licensing process which took some time, to keep their access to the Scottish Cup

The cover installed for 100 at Golspie Sutherland's ground and accepted for licensing:

is a prime example of what could be tightened up a bit by the licensing committee to avoid a massive influx. The problem for them is if they tighten up too much is that the resulting cull of the existing full members would start to include some Lowland League clubs like Civil Service Strollers:

Also Burntisland Shipyard and Coldstream probably.

One of the problems is you only need a entry level ground for League One and Two (+bronze level floodlights), so getting a licence allows you to go halfway up the SPFL with the same facilities that gets you entry into the HL/LL. If the SPFL changed their rules so you needed a bronze ground at all levels only Albion Rovers would fall foul of the rule (and they're going down anyway!).

The issue would then be, only three of the LL clubs have bronze grounds (shared with SPFL clubs) and one HL (Narin, maybe Cove as well). Less chance of a non-league club being promoted, but it would allow them time to sort out the pyramid and also their facilities.

The SFA could just say that any new applicants must be in tier 6 next year (EOS Premier/WOS), or add something in between bronze and entry required for tier 5.

That picture is a good example of something that really pisses me off at Strollers - folk standing against the rail right in front of the seats. You'd have to be a twat to do that.

I wouldn't want to visit there in a wheelchair either, the path from the pavilion is a mess of rubble and there's no hard surface beside the pitch.
