A constant opportunity to take everything to a higher level. I suppose the correlation is that better or higher means more enjoyment, greater participation, therefore the sport grows. As for a logistical nightmare, its really not, players are well payed for what they do at that level, The commitment to playing national football and making sure your available to play is entirely expected. If that's using leave, making shift swaps, turning down promotions etc then that's what happens. You occasionally hear of players unavailable due to work, that's very much the exception and nearly only happens when a game has had multiple postponements and played at short notice. Seems forgotten also that there are many players who travel 90 minutes+ just for training sessions. Yes there are players who find themselves unable/ unwilling to make those commitments, and that's their choice, they can drop down to a level that suits them. On clubs, We have a handful of clubs that blur the lines between amateurs and professional, for who the step between local amateur leagues to EoS wide isn't a comfortable one to make. But even outside of the highlands(where the level of commitment is huge in comparison to the cushy life central belt has) amateur leagues expect hour long journeys. I don't think its too much for those clubs who feel they are a little above that to travel 1 to 2 hours. I did admire one player on a fairly recent documentary on Fort William FC, who travelled from Edinburgh to FW twice weekly for training - then back on a Saturday. If it was an away match - he still travelled to go with the team bus and get the banter. That’s commitment for you!! I think it was something along the lines of a coaching staff with an amateur background approached Sauchie with the idea. It will surely be another Bo'ness fiasco and Suachie is a lot smaller than Bo'ness. Another poster on this thread picked up on a report about Cupar Hearts working with another local club, AM Soccer, with a view to progressing but precisely what that means may be interpreted more than one way. See Greenlaw of the Border Amateur League are currently very active on Facebook announcing management team changes and player retentions and new players for next season. Quite a few are quoted as having EoS experience. They're using terms like "new contract" and " contract extension" but would amateurs need contracts? Google Streetview and Bing Maps ariel show the ground is enclosed by trees and boasts what looks like a new club-house. No rails showing around the pitch though. Greenlaw’s ground wouldn’t need much to pass, but I doubt they will be looking at anything other than winning the Border Amateur. Tayport putting in an application has been stated publicly by their chairman Dave Baikie unlike the Cupar Hearts thing which was based on a post by a random poster on here AFAIA. Also not clear why all remaining east region members are not being listed as possibilities now that Forfar WE is part of the equation and the Tay Bridge boundary is now unambiguously known (arguably should have been obvious for around two years since PWG minutes started leaking out on here) not to be the league's fixed northern boundary. Probably just throwing the terms about to sound big time - it's cringeworthy if anything. You sign papers to play amatuer, for insurance purposes and cup ties predominantly. Is it Sauchie Community or another title? When they were applying to the Juniors I recall Dunblane Soccer Club being mentioned. It will be interesting to see what they”morph” into this time.
