We're apparently of the opinion that Lyness and Urminsky are ok for a game or two at an absolute push, but any more than that and we'd need a more dependable keeper. I get the economics of it, and I get that a club our size probably can't pay out for two keepers of first-team quality. I just find the concept of them strange.
pozbaird
Looking at the matchday photos, the new away kit is a belter. Going to be a best-seller for sure. Hope Joma and the club can meet demand. Edited July 17, 2022 by pozbaird

Lyness is the first real 'back up' we've had for a while. What I mean by that is other keepers who've played second fiddle have done so either keepers who came in as number 2 but progressed to number 1 (like Samson or Combe) or keepers who've left after a season or two in the first team to get games (Ridgers, Stewart, Adam). This is no criticism of Lyness. He's done well when called upon and maybe this is his best opportunity to be involved full time at a decent club. Maybe he's got a settled family here or whatever. At the end of the day it's a job.
djchapsticks
Add me to the give Urminsky a chance club. What's point of us taking 2 years to train the lad up and develop him if we're bringing in a loan keeper to jump the line? Give him at least until the end of the transfer window and if he's not up to scratch, get a loan deal sorted late on.

We have put a lot into this lad and at 23 he now needs to show his ability. Keepers thrive on confidence and this will give us the chance to see if he has what it takes. To be fair Carson looks a downgrade on Alnwick and Hladky. Perhaps Urminsky can emerge from the shadows. Give the boy a chance.

It does seem to go against the "we'll give young players a chance" line we often hear. Maybe Robinson just feels that it's a position where mistakes lose you games. Urminsky too much of a risk having played just a dozen or so pro games 3 levels below us. Erhahon was thrown in a few years ago that was at left back. A penny for the thoughts of Jamie Langfield anyway...

He injured his knee playing for Motherwell in October '20. Was operated on and returned on Boxing Day only to damage it again in his second game back (a defeat to Killie the day before Robinson resigned). Didn't play again that season nor for Motherwell. His next appearance was in August '21 for Dundee Utd and he went onto play plenty of games last season. Presuming that same knee is causing concern again now. Hope he gets good news. Aye, it was a meniscus tear that Carson had. The implication was that he was rushed back early by Robinson and as you say he got through the 90 mins against United but broke down again after about 65 mins against Killie. Though it's not directly related it's probably worth considering the amount of time he was out as a result of the DVT. Gillespie took his place and he pretty much spent the 19/20 season on the bench as a result. At his peak for us, around 17/18 he was an exceptional goalkeeper. Fwiw, as soon as Carson was injured in 20/21 Robinson went straight out to source a replacement. We ended up with something like 4 first team goalkeepers in that period - Carson (injured), Fox (injured), Chapman and Jordan Archer.

Shuggie_Murray7
A goalkeeper is a very specialised position and a bad one can relegate a team so I understand the trepidation of giving a young goalie an opportunity. If Urminsky gets the nod then I’m fine with that. We have to see what he’s made of at some point. If we go for a loan deal to cover us then I understand that too.
Captain Saintsible
I’m pretty sure Robinson will already know if he thinks Urminsky can ever be first choice! It’s not about giving him a chance!

Already KNOW if he THINKS says it all, he will have no idea until he gives him a go. Pointless putting years into developing a specialist position to basically pass him over at the first opportunity. He's 23, not 18, let's have a look especially given the names being banded about as a possible replacement.

glenburn bud
Baccus at Ralston today I’m presuming he’ll be playing catch up in terms of match fitness. Will he get mins against Airdrie and the Edinburgh team.

I think the Airdrie games came a bit too early.
Coventry Saint
If we find ourselves 3-0 up with 20 to play then he might get some time Vs Airdrie, but otherwise, yeah, he'll be getting rested I reckon.

Then a run out at some stage on Saturday.

Langfield by all accounts is a very good coach, so hopefully his view of whether Urminsky is ready will be listened to. When we signed Carson, even though it looked like a good signing, i'd a worry about his injury and illness record. It looks like Lyness is well out the picture - i guess his performance v Motherwell towards the end of last season rightly or wrongly has led Robinson to the view he cant be relied upon to deputise for a prolonged period of time. If we are bringing in a loan keeper, what about Scott Bain from Celtic rather than McCrorie?
