The European football level St. Mirren FC 2024/25 thread

Thought le fondre was very clever for the finish for the first goal and shot first time , shooting early and  guiding the ball into the corner and focusing on accuracy rather than power . The fault for the first goal was because too many players were in forward positions for our throw in .

It always strikes me that teams are easier to beat when they have played a European game in midweek. Even the Old Firm seem to drop a lot of points after European adventures. The fact Aberdeen are also away gives us a great opportunity to take all three points. If we can win our first three games that will set us up nicely for the season. :)

And with Gallagher and Shaughnessy away we don’t appear to have anyone to take a long throw in now…..

It's what you want from an experienced forward... experience. I think with more experience Hemming learns to expect that, you'd hope so anyway.

It's the pass from Doidge that does it for us though, cutting out 3 defenders and landing it at le Fondre's feet.

Did we actually have 3 defenders on our half ? I thought we over-committed to attack and the pair at the back were stuffed by 2 good passes.

I'm a fan of the long throw , love the way we used to steal 10 yards at a throw . Though Gogic can chuck in a decent throw,  it's nice having another option . Hence why I would like us to go for Strapp .

A. Why not play Aberdeen’s European game on a Weds - you know, just like they used to do for decades

B. Okay, whoever in charge doesn’t care less about domestic paying customers and arranges the Euro games for a Thurs night for no good reason - fine - but that’s playing in Europe for you. The domestic games shouldn’t be moved - and I’d be saying this even if it were us playing in Europe

C. Or, as you point out they already knew Aberdeen were going to play on the Thurs, then they should have switched the fixture round so the game was at Pittodrie on the Sunday and we get the game on the Saturday. Why are St Mirren season ticket holders getting mucked about for this?

D. These are elite fecking athletes getting paid thousands per week. They should be more then capable of playing 2 games in 3 days!

That’s my rant on the subject over 😜😆

A. TV money

B. TV money

C. Or why wait until now to change it?

D. Mibies

You want us to sign somebody because he takes a good shy?

He didn’t make a mistake for the first goal IMO and there’s zero chance Carson is reaching that one regardless of how quickly he may or may not have gone down.

There is likely a staunch argument from Ric that Carson may have got his right hand to it. 😂

Fcuk Carson. He’s gone!

Rory Delap was such a huge influence on how Stoke played that opposition managers used to say to their players to kick it out for a corner rather than a throw in.

Harry Rednapp said he would never have sold Delap had he known his capabilities with the throw in.

It was discovered by chance during a Stoke end of season training session competition to see who had the longest throw.

I'm probably in a minority here, but I wouldn't really care about Carson's staunchness, as long as he doesn't bring the club into disrepute by any of his staunch behaviour. What bothers me is his arrogance, in expecting Robbo to base his team selection on the fact he has his friends or family coming over; his petulance in acting like a spoilt brat and throwing a tantrum because he didn't get his own way; and his inability to see he was being a massive dick during the close season and bury the hatchet.

Fucking booooo! 🤬

Was going to mention Delap, a fairly average yet consistent player but with a ridiculously accurate throw.

Le Fondre did well, the damage was done by Doidge's pass, that's all given. My argument is that an experienced keeper would have set themselves properly giving them a better chance of stopping what was a weak shot. It's not a Carson vs Hemming thing, it's a Hemming vs Experience issue. It'll happen to all keepers, I'm not singling Hemming out because it's Hemming, I'm pointing it out because it happened.

For what it's worth I get you. The shot wasn't a powered one and the keeper wasn't set to ably cover a shot that was just inside the post.

That's why I argued he should have moved out to narrow the angle. He did have time.

But the truth is Le Fondre wandered away from Goga who was far more culpable.

Not a very good CB... just hope Bolton gets fully in swing soon.

I don’t give a fcuk either. Some of our greatest ever players have been stauncher than a staunch thing.

Exhibit A:

Fergie gave many of us the greatest day of our lives and he should be in our Hall of Fame.

Carson doesn’t come close to being talked about in 3 months never mind 35 years.
