NorthernLights
Thought a thread to share the sort of shit local councils get up to might highlight some very cuntish behaviour and I want to see if other local councils are as bad as Aberdeen. The other day there were reports in the P&J that they could start charging homeless people to store their belongings to save £26k as the council is so cash strapped - https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/aberdeen/1365237/aberdeen-could-start-charging-homeless-to-store-goods/ A few days later we get news that they have £30k to spend on uniforms for members of staff, it works out to £400 per uniform - https://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/fp/news/local/city-council-sets-aside-30000-to-kit-out-75-members-of-workforce/ The art gallery was due to reopen at the end of the year after sticking some shipping containers on top of it but now won't open till 2018 or even 2019 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-42079484 And they've announced they've made a complete arse of Provost Skene’s House too so that won't reopen till 2019 - https://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/fp/news/local/work-on-art-gallery-and-provost-skenes-house-delayed-as-cost-of-work-soars1/ That is just in the past 5 days.
MEADOWXI
Sticking with Aberdeen City Council Feel free to add that due to the general overrun on the Marischal Sq build they have had to lay a temporary road surface in Broad St for the Christmas Market to be on, And in January this will all be dug up in order for the proper road surface to be laid. And this on a bit of road directly outside the Council HQ, not hard to supervise work, they only had to look out their bloody windows. to see the work was months behind schedule. And the building of Marischal Sq is going to be a half empty expensive millstone round the necks of the taxpayers of Aberdeen for years
RiG
Local Authorities bleat about wanting more cash from the Scottish Government yet they seem to waste an astronomical amount of money. Edinburgh City Council have recently seen parts of Leith Walk getting torn up and resurfaced as part of some streetscape project to improve junctions, cycling lanes etc. All quite commendable to be fair until you realise all this work is going to get pulled up in a year or so for the tram tracks to be laid. They also had part of the road outside Easter Road resurfaced a few months back only for it to be ripped up two weeks later for fibre optic cables to be installed. lionel hutz
Some students in conjunction with the uni are trying to get planning permission to renovate a derilct property into a student pub on the High St. It looks like it's going to get rejected due to some of the shite the NIMBYs have put on the the Council website. "The University students will probably take up vandalism." was my personal favourite, considering the sentence previous was "It would mean that the St Machar Bar would lose customers" Those two statements completely contradict one another.https://publicaccess.aberdeencity.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=ORJ7SEBZLKH00 Aberdeen City Council are a shower of shite. DA Baracus
A few years back Fife council spunked £135k on this piece of shit in Dunfermline beside the bus station; It benefits absolutely no one. No one likes it. No one can use it for anything. It serves no purpose. It's supposed to be a bit of 'public art'. It's just hideous.

senorsoupe
Ottawa city council are incapable of budgeting properly for snow clearing. Every year since I have lived here they have been over budget, often really early in the winter too. Dear council, IT SNOWS A LOT HERE!!! Granny Danger
It’s not too difficult to get elected as a councillor, the P&B denizens of these various locales should get themselves elected and make a change. I’m sure they would all do a wonderful job.

It really adds to the splendor of the piece.

Everything I hear about Aberdeen makes it sound like a failed state. Ill let people draw their own conclusions about what the difference is. I've no idea, but the picture I posted looks ok. I'll bet the funding came from outside Dunfermline or Fife Council, so it wasn't money that could have been spent on the homeless, pot holes or schools etc. Local reaction to any arts project is always universally hostile, no matter who's paying. The Kelpies wouldn't have stood a chance if it was a democratic decision. People hate the idea of art until it's there, then often they love it. Maybe not in your example but your picture didn't give it a chance.
Benjamin_Nevis
Angus switched to Tory control in May. Absolute shambles so far [emoji38] They've managed to f**k up the recycling centres and close numerous other services, including help for the deaf and potentially a dementia day care service. Three of them were elected on "No to a second referendum" with literally no other policies and now genuinely have no idea what they're doing. One must also add that our new MP is airheaded fuckwit Kirstene Hair. Tremendous [emoji38]

Carl Cort's Hamstring
Nothing, anywhere will beat this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-11664558 An enclosed play area for a teenage pupil with learning difficulties and autism, which was described as a "cage" by his MSP, has been removed. The 18-year-old's parents raised funds for a safe play area at the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway, on Lewis.Western Isles Council - Comhairle nan Eilean Siar - said it wanted to apologise unreservedly to the family. I mean, at some point there must have been a meeting where they agreed that that was a good idea.
