Florentine_Pogen
This gif always makes me chortle... ByCraig RobertsonFormer Rangers stars who benefited from a controversial tax avoidance scheme have just days left to come up with a payback plan – or face legal action. The Taxman is trying to recoup millions of pounds from Employee Benefits Trusts (EBT), which were operated by the Ibrox side. Some experts have put the bill at £24million – half of the £48million which Rangers paid out in EBT payments to directors, managers, players and staff. HMRC are understood to have sent out notices requesting payback from those who were part of the schemes. They have set a deadline of this Thursday to open up negotiations on a settlement deal.SPFL chief faces grilling over Rangers EBT letter to SFA as his own board demand clarificationThe Taxman was given power to go after former Rangers figures following a Supreme Court ruling last July which said EBT payments made under the David Murray regime at Ibrox were not loans but earnings that should have been taxed. It came at the end of a seven-year court saga over what’s known as the Big Tax Case. The payback could hit a squad of Ibrox old boys – from legendary goalie Stefan Klos to less heralded signings including Nuno Capucho and Julien Rodriguez.Former club owner Murray, with an estimated liability of more than £3million, is by far the biggest potential loser.Last July, former team captain Barry Ferguson was made bankrupt, with debts of more than £1.4million. He faced an unpaid tax bill of £1.25million after receiving EBT payments.HMRC are also targeting users of “disguised renumeration tax avoidance schemes” in thousands of other businesses.https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/former-rangers-stars-face-24m-12607046A lovely start to the week......what with Waddell’s piece at the weekend, wee blondie Jacks***’s piece today (posted in the Let’s All Laugh at Rangers thread) and now this, are The Poodles starting to take Jabba’s schlong out of their collective mouths ?[emoji149][emoji149]

sjc
Are the side letters not a get out of jail free card for the EBT recipients? I thought that was the whole purpose of these side letters?
Ranaldo Bairn
I thought the side letters were just the club company telling the players: "Look, these are obviously part of your earnings, but for some obscure, non sporting-benefit-obtaining reasons, we're not putting them through the books. They're totally legit though. Totally."
Florentine_Pogen
Oh dear.......potential salty tears on Edmiston Drive .............. https://www.themag.co.uk/2018/05/martin-skrtel-offered-newcastle-united-report/ Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign veteran centre-back Martin Skrtel this summer. The Slovakia international is currently plying his trade for Fenerbahce but is available on a cut-price deal with his contract running down into its last year with the Istanbul outfit according to Turkish publication Fotomac. Skrtel, now 33, has also been linked with Glasgow Rangers and a possible reunion with his old team-mate Steven Gerrard at Ibrox. But he is keen to get back to playing in the Premier League after an absence of two years following his Anfield exit. A move to Rangers was dismissed by his agent as he stated that the Scottish giants were unable to match his wage demands. His representative Karol Csonto said: “Martin would be very happy to play under Steven Gerrard. “But sometimes, regarding transfers, you need to put so many things together and in this situation it’s impossible. “When there is only a small difference then you can find a solution, but in this case, the salary of the player in Turkey is four or five times more than what Rangers could offer. “That makes it impossible. “Also, Fenerbahce will never let him go because he is their most important player and they need him for the Champions League qualification. “Eventually, the chief executives of the clubs did speak about a transfer but they both agreed the difference between them is too much.” Edited May 28, 2018 by Florentine_Pogen

Just to put that into perspective, that's about 2/3rds of what Steven Naismith is earning at Norwich...

Ken Fitlike
Foreigners coming here to work will be guided by their employer. If any wrongdoing is discovered later, then the employer should be liable. Pay the money or agree to have the records of competition wins amended. The records of competition wins should have been amended from a very early stage in the entire saga. The fact the authorities continue to pretend it was all somehow irrelevant is utterly shameful.
