Part of me wishes they could wake up and smell the coffee - walk away disgusted and let their support diminish. But then where would the fun be if people like yer man here were no longer permaraging ultramorons?

They deserve everything they get after years of laughing at all of us.

I'm fairly sure their first match after being admitted into League 2 was a Challenge Cup tie away to Brechin.  So he's wrong but right in that they were a League 2 side then.
It was SFL division 3 they were admitted to, which they won and were duly promoted. The following season the SPL & SFL folded, the SPFL formed, and SFL league 2 became SPFL1 so they never played in League 2.

Aw, how is this not up here already?

Apparently Rangers are "ahead of the curve" by being in the "top 3".

Last season they finished 9 points ahead of 4th, right now they're only 3 ahead. Progres?

And my favourite; "We are probably doing a little better than we would have imagined back in the dark days of running out at Brechin in the fourth tier."

Seriously? In what everyone presumed would be their third year back in the Premiership? Rangers fans seem to finding these days pretty dark too.

To be fair they are ahead of the curve.

But the problem is if you look at their current set up do you expect them to be better next season or not.  Hibs, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Hearts and Celtic all look as if they will be better next year than this. Aberdeen have struggled after the loss of McGinn and Hayes and are set to loose a few more so they may fall back.  If you look at the ****ters then you would expect them to gut the squad find a new overpaid foreign manager that knows nothing about Scottish football, fill the squad with overpaid has beens and fall flat on their face.

I also expect St Johnston, Dundee and Ross County to struggle next year assuming they escape relegation.

I think more folk would have heard of Hummel than a fat smelly Celtic fan tbf.
Pretty sure Paul is followed exclusively by pornbots.

Agreed, I’ve never heard of the c**t, that’s why I found it mildly amusing. Apparently he’s famous for working in Asda.

FWIW I’ve never heard of pornbots either

You think so? I don't think there's any excuse for a club that has by a very considerable margin the second highest income in Scotland, and started off less than 6 years ago with no debt, not to be safely finishing second.

I disagree slightly Gordon. Main target last season should have been finish in the top six. Next step qualify for Europe this season. Compete for second position next season and win one of the cups maybe and then go for the title season 2019/2020 maybe fighting for a league and cup double. Those are more realistic targets and financially viable within their budget without running excess debt chasing the dream.

But unfortunately for the bears themselves the only target is to beat Celtic and all that matters. Wouldn't matter one fucking jot for The Rangers fans if The Rangers finished in 5th position as long as Celtic finished in 6th position.

Why do you need a specific target? Surely each team just wants to do as well in every competition as they possibly can. If Rangers were to 'compete for second position next season... and then go for the title season 2019/2020" does that mean they aren't trying to win the title next year? Maybe it's unrealistic to expect them to win it next season but that doesn't mean they (or anybody else) won't be trying.

Imo, progress should be done in stages. If the **** exceeded those targets for the season then that season would be considered a successful one. But that is just my opinion Gordo. Doesn't matter one jot if they have the second largest budget, it takes time to build a team in the top tier and may take several years to compile a squad capable of competing for the top spot.

That's the point, how long do you think it takes to make a football club. They came up through the divisions and are now bobbing along in the top six.  Along the way they've lost millions of pounds and although they've spent millions. they've no where compared to the **** , who in last 6 years have had no debt, made millions and spent  millions and built a team on a good strong foundation.  Properly run there's no reason why the **** shouldn't be able to compete for second place eventually. But I cant see them ever competing with the ****.

Rangers should be reaching the end of their third season in the Premier League. It doesn't take that long to bring in decent players. Given their income, they should be comfortably ahead of Hibs and Aberdeen. The reason they aren't is because of terrible decisions made from the top down.

They signed better players during the last summer they were in the lower leagues (Tavernier and Foderingham are still two of their main players) than most of the overpriced junk they've signed since promotion to the top league. They've put far too much emphasis on signing "big name" players (Barton, Alves) with no consideration of how that affects the team structure or their other players, e.g. Bates getting cheesed off with being offered buttons while Alves / Cardoso are on big money.

The comparison point for them should have been how Celtic went from being a pretty poor team in 94 to being competitive with Rangers by 96. Aye they spent some money on big-name foreign players (Thom, van Hooijdonk), but it was mostly signing lower profile / cost players who were good value (e.g. Jackie McNamara, Tosh McKinlay). That established them as clearly the second best team and they were able to kick on from there.

To give a modern example, it's bizarre that Rangers aren't being linked with signing Dylan McGeouch. He's out of contract, won't cost a huge amount in wages and is clearly better than some of the rubbish they have in their midfield just now.
