MarkoRaj
As expected Liam Lindsay has been papped out and can't even get in the Stoke squad. An 18 year old youth product was playing at centre half tonight and kept a clean sheet. He's Irish. Murray Wallace has been playing regular championship football for a while now with Millwall. Although it seems to be mainly at left back where our cup overfloweth Maybe he could still do a job at centre half? McKenna has been pretty dire any time I've seen him in the last few weeks. Would have Findlay and Gallagher ahead of him atm

Although not sure I'd wish that on the guy.
Rodhull
Can’t say where he is in the pecking order of centre back’s there but Liam Lindsay has been injured recently. A quote from O’Neil a couple of days ago: “There’s no real advancements (with injuries), Ryan has stepped up his training and he has trained today, Stephen Ward is still with the medical team at this minute in time. Liam Lindsay returned to training today so we’ll see how he is and in relation to Wednesday night, but we don’t have anyone else missing.”

Would have Findlay and Gallagher ahead of him atm I thought Murray Wallace was an outstanding prospect when at Falkirk, obviously a massive massive step up but I was optimistic he'd push on and be a good option for us long-term. Might be one of these Alexander type players who we went up only finding use of when in their 30s. Having a search of the Millwall forums, they say he's not really a wing back but has been purposed their this season to do a job and are talking about him being POTY potentially. In all honesty, I think we're crying out for a more experienced type centre back to compliment what we have, Davie Weir used to be that player for us and then later on, Russell Martin to a far lesser extent was a really good partner for Hanley before both of their club careers went awry (incidentally, a similar time to the collapse under Strachan when we looked in a strong position to qualify). McLeish tried to sort that a bit by introducing Mulgrew (which didn't really work) and then Clarke hasn't really addressed it at all. Someone like Wallace could be a good shout to try at some point. No one really appreciates just how good a solid top half English Premier league type defender is until you've not got any, you can cover and apply fixes to other positions but you're fucked without that. Right now, we only really have Hanley performing at that level and he's been a sick note for years and is playing for the side rock bottom of the division and not really winning plaudits. If we could find (or fabricate) Scottish grannys for Ben Mee and James Tarkowski, we'd jump well up the Fifa rankings on that below.
craigkillie
McLeish didn't "introduce" Mulgrew at centre-back - he played there regularly for Strachan and him and Berra were the partnership for much of the unbeaten run towards the end of the WC2018 campaign. Murray Wallace might get a chance at some point, but if he can't even get a game in his proper position in the English Championship then that time probably isn't now. Jeremiah Cole
Grant Hanley captaining Norwich to a victory and a clean sheet in the Premiership last night Despite the views of the many roasters on this forum, he’s our best centre back Assuming both are fit, our centre back pairing in the play offs must be Hanley & Cooper

accies1874
Cooper and Hanley then? Gallagher and either Devlin or Findlay will probably be the other two.
MarkoRaj
I'm not convinced by Cooper at all. Not seen all that much of him but he seems far to slow for international football

Murray Wallace might get a chance at some point, but if he can't even get a game in his proper position in the English Championship then that time probably isn't now.True, I was more meaning that McLeish picked Mulgrew as his main experienced defender early on and played various players around him, which was sensible at the time IMO. Just think Mulgrew has been poor in that role since.Re Wallace, by the same token, Scotland have had dozens of players over the years who have played very different roles for the national team than their club side, it's very common in international football. He's not playing centre back because he's not good enough there, he's dependable in this role in their system and shown himself as a good option. There is debate there if his position is taking away from his strength at centre back.Seeing Souttar and McKenna continue to pick up injuries and us not exactly being convincing their in general, we're not exactly blessed with options and a defensive player playing very well for a play off chasing English Championship side should absolutely be high up the list.
