Yet the ground was only 3/4 full... only 5 years before the record attendance had been set at 65,860 for the New Year derby. Everyone just had a touch more space. Similarly why pictures of a "packed" Hampden are sometimes deceptive.
HibeeJibee
While on the topic of inter city matches and big terraces - here's some more covers showing Hillsborough, Bramall Lane (with the cricket field area), Hampden, Highbury and Stamford Bridge.

I'd never have put that down as Scotland let alone Easter Road - it looks too tropical although perceptions are no doubt influenced by the exotic choice for pre match entertainment.

It was early August so maybe a summer thunderstorm was brewing! Edinburgh select game was always played the Saturday before the club season began from the war until 1963, alternating between Tynecastle and Easter Road each year. I assume the glamorous musical entertainment may have been in the city for the Tattoo - in other years the massed pipes & drums included:Federation of Malaya Police The Uganda Rifles Kings' African Rifles Brigade of Gurkhas The Sikh Regiment Gaza & Meerut Sikhs

I have always been puzzled about the demented lop-sidedness of the Shed roof at Stamford Bridge... A quirk of English grounds...

HibeeJibee
Some cracking shots of Ibrox and contemporary kit - both players and referees - in these highlights from the annual Scottish League v Football League game in 1922. To get the thread back on track, here's a random pic of some Saints players presented as if it had some historical significance when it's really just a pic of some Saints players... I'm fairly sure that was McFaddens 75th career goal.

Where do you find all this stuff Mr Jibee? And another thing, I had no idea that Easter Road used to have a roof on the side opposite the Main Stand before it became the massive terrace.

That footage is from Stark's Park - they have titled it "Hibernians v Raith Rovers" in error. Replay on the Wednesday afternoon also finished 0-0 and the second replay at Tynecastle on the following Monday finished 4-1 to Raith.

There's also massive jealousy as well since we never got regular half days at school It's been a thing in the Lothians for about 20 years if you ask me. I left teaching nearly 7 years ago and it was going long before that. It's called the asymmetric week or some such. And the schools that choose to do it, make it up elsewhere in the week, as there's a statutory number of minutes to be filled in all Scottish schools. And the teachers have development meetings about 1 week in 3 so can't go home. Sorry to be a boring c**t and derail the thread, still at least I'm not boring the kids now
