Must have been a hard shift at Dens Park then. Scored the very first goal in the SPL after the change to the 10 team league.

The fact that the English, and by extension leagues worldwide, copied our SFL PD need to be more widely promulgated.
HibeeJibee
Of course the Portuguese already had a Primeira Divisao, and the Austrians already had a 10 team top division playing each other 4 times, but ignoring them we were indeed the true pioneers. (I recall the inspiration to cap the downsized levels with a Premier Division - soothing the egos and hence smoothing the votes of clubs thus officially not 'relegated' - came from England whose Southern League formed such in 1959 and Northern Premier League was set-up in 1968... btw there was briefly a Premier Division in the Ayrshire Amateur League in late 1940s/early 1950s).

The name of the ground does not help when we get castigated as Tories.

That was almost as good as it got that season, top of the league on goals scored after one game though I'm not sure if we even used that rule then, relegated on goal difference from Aberdeen and United. Anyway here's some more cracking pics from the Shoot.

Chronologically, aye that would be about the start of it. However, the malaise isn't unique to up here - most of the European leagues show the same imbalanced evidence of the results of huge financial disparity across clubs. I worked in Peterhead early 80s and used to watch the Fergie Dons at Pittodrie and was also at Dens when United won the league. Nice to reminisce, but those days will never return sadly - unless the ugly sisters depart for the attraction of seriously big bucks in the hopefully soon to happen European Leagues.

RandomGuy.
Its the Champions League that fucked Scottish football, IMO. The money involved allowed Celtic/Rangers to enter a different stratosphere to other Scottish clubs, and they were already ahead financially as it was. Scottish teams virtually as a whole got desperate, fucked themselves with Setanta trying to claw back some of the gap, and now are stuck in the gutter forever more.
