A Photographic History Of Scottish Football

From the Tullygeraph’s Blether wi’ Broon

Kenny Dick has featured a number of times in BwB.

Kenny was, perhaps, better known for playing, among others, with Dundee United and Forfar Athletic, and also managing the Station Park side.

He was also a referee at local level after he hung up his boots and, indeed, was still officiating until just recently.

And the Loons were the subject of a recent conversation I had with him.

After he stopped playing, Kenny became a scout and coach under Forfar manager Jerry Kerr.

He recently came across copies of reports which he compiled on potential signing targets – one of which is Alec Brash, who went on to become a Forfar legend, playing well over 400 games for the Angus outfit.

Same source about the passing of Steven Graham who also played for Brechin City and Cowdenbeath. That’s some Loons squad. No idea why pic doubled up.

St Mirren v Feyenoord 1983.

Although they lost the tie to the Dutch giants the Paisley side held their own in both legs as was the norm for Scottish sides up against huge opposition in Europe then, how times have changed.

Rangers 2012 have done well in the Europa league in the last two season's and Celtic have been a bit hit and miss but, other than those two it's 2008 since a Scottish side made the group stages of a tournament.

Ah, I never knew there were two clubhouses. A shame that they knocked the place down. I'm not sure if the place ever had floodlights. I happened to be watching an 1983 Euro qualifying match between the Republic and The Netherlands and it was played at Bohs Dalymount Park presumably because of the evening kick-off. It was insane, a huge amount of fans watching from roof of one particular stand ( a small number seen in the picture below)

Apologies, this isn't part of the photographic history of Scottish football...

That's debatable, it's been home of their biggest rivals too and Shelbourne are due to play there when/if it's developed

There were actually two Clubhouses in the old Lansdowne Road. The one in that photo is Wanderers FC ( three of whose members won VCs in the Great War). The other one was at the other end of that stand and was Lansdowne FC. (Both clubs are Rugby Clubs, founded before the codes split, so they don't use the "R".

By the way,the top deck of that stand was above the Mainline railway.

There still are - they're in adjoining buildings behind the new stadium. Wanderers...
