1992-93 Scottish First Division Champions Raith Rovers.

The game which clinched promotion was six matches from the end of the season, at home against Dumbarton, which including a celebratory pitch invasion. Kilmarnock finished second, 11 points adrift, with Meadowbank Thistle and Cowdenbeath relegated.

Craig Brewster was on the mark in this match, and got 22 league goals that season, that being eclipsed by Gordon Dalziel with 33. Brewster had signed from Forfar in 1991, on a fee of around £55,000 decided by a transfer tribunal.

In marked contrast to the above, the programme from the Second Round match at Brechin was quite literally a single sheet. I've always had my doubts about this being an "official" programme.Brechin City v Kilmarnock Scottish League Cup 1961/62 single sheet

ETA: This is a great thread!

Wednesday 11th March 1953
B international
Scotland B 2-2 England B

at Easter Road, Edinburgh     25,000

image.png.fcbb6320e69bd7180ef07cb032f5b317.png

This was a significant day in British football as Edinburgh hosted the first-ever B international between England and Scotland, while London hosted the return match of the first representative tie between English and German sides since the war - also being the first major match played under artificial light. (At that point the only Scottish club with illuminations was Stenhousemuir: so it was an afternoon kickoff in Leith).

Holden gave the visitors a half-time lead but McMillan levelled shortly after the break. Grainger put England ahead again almost instantly... Henderson equalised when his corner went straight in after English 'keeper was apparently badly manhandled but no foul awarded.

Interestingly enough the Coronation Cup was drawn at the game. Arsenal, Manchester Utd, Newcastle Utd, Spurs, Celtic and Rangers were invited, to join the as-yet-unknown Scottish League and Scottish Cup winners. Rangers ultimately won both so respective runners-up Hibs and Aberdeen entered.

There was also a pirate programme available on the streets that day produced by a printer from Nottingham of all places. In common with many such publications at that time the unsuspecting supporter who shelled-out 6p (versus 3p for the official publication!) would discover nothing match-related inside beyond the line-ups.

Saturday 5th March 1983
Inter-City boys international
Glasgow Boys v Bradford Boys

at Hampden Park, Glasgow

No idea what the score was - no result in Monday's edition of the Glasgow Herald. Perhaps somebody knows or can discover it. This was the 52nd meeting in a long-standing series between the 2 cities at U18 level, with Hampden the traditional venue for the match this end.

Interesting to trace the fate of Glasgow's squad as adults.

Kevin Gallacher played over 50 times for Scotland and had a long career with Dundee United and top English clubs. Sammy Johnston was a regular for St Johnstone then various other clubs in Scotland and Ireland. Ian Cameron had a long career particularly with St Mirren and Partick. Graham Hay appearred for Stranraer and other lower-league sides. Stuart McArthur achieved a year at Albion Rovers.

Brian McGee never broke into Celtic's first-team, but did play for Partick a few times. Andrew Mulraney never broke into Clydebank's first-team and similarly Robert Kennedy at St Mirren. Cannot find any record of "R Gahagan", "M Keyes", "K Knight", "R Knox", "I McIlwham", "E McKenna", "I MacRitchie" or "G Stewart" playing at SFL level.

So that's 1 international, 2 professionals, 2 part-timers (1 only brief), 3 near-misses and 8 apparently "sunk without trace". Blame the teachers strike.

Ian Cameron also scored the only goal in a 1-0 League Cup Semi Final win over Celtic for Aberdeen in September 1989. It was about the only thing he did for us, but always grateful for that one goal. I also think that it would be described as a screamer.

The London goalie Sam Bartram is the guy who infamously had to be told by a policeman that a match had been abandoned.

There was thick fog, and he was standing in his box just assuming his team were on the attack, only for the copper to appear from the fog and tell him they had stopped 15 minutes before. He got into the dressing room to find his team mates were already changed back into their normal clothes.

First visit today to Millburn Park, Alexandria. Home of Vale of Leven FC.

10th most Scottish Cup Final appearances (seven). Three wins, four defeats. Last final was 1890, but never say never...

Sixth most wins, i.e. same number of cup wins as Hibs, Killie, St Mirren and Clyde.

Founder member of the SFL in 1890.

Delighted to make it here finally.

That’s a cracking find, an old pal of mine on that team sheet, I’ve just sent him it, think he will be made up. Many thanks for posting.[emoji106]

The late Peter Miller, in this picture wearing a cracking Admiral Motherwell outfit in 1977. A defender/midfielder, he also played for Arbroath, Dunfermline, and Dundee in Scotland, before moving to the States where he became a goal machine for Phoenix and Cleveland. But Motherwell was his local side.

Although striking a Crackerjack 'Crush a Grape' pose here, he was a hard tackling part of a 'Well side which included Willie Watson, Stewart McLaren and Gregor Steven. His nickname at Fir Park was 'Doomie', named in jest after Private Fraser from Dad's Army, as he was a negative, pesimistic character, according to one time team mate Peter Marinello.

Later, he worked with Motherwell's youth programme, before his death in 2013, aged 62, from a brain tumour.

Coincidentally (I assume), I was just discussing these matters on the Scott Brown retires thread on Friday afternoon...

Never visited, I need to make a concerted effort to do the Lowland League. Went off the idea when the Gruesomes got in this season though...

Coincidence indeed! So much so that you just notified me that Scott Brown had retired, I really pay so little attention to the top leagues these days.

Would definitely recommend you skip the Lowland League and visit some of the delights further down the pyramid. Millburn Park is a gem from a bygone era, no better place to start.

I am mostly continuing my boycott of the Lowland League. This season I've only been to games at Edinburgh Uni, Dalbeattie and Bonnyrigg, three of the "good guys" who voted against the Colts. Will get to the other two (Civil Service and Bo'ness) eventually and that will be as far as I'm prepared to go this season.

Will be watching the vote for next season with interest. 93efea6b1fd8f4ea3b5fe74dbdb4e1c3.jpg
