HibeeJibee
Crackler. England never really got going, albeit couple of tries ruled-out by TMO were close, and avoidable errors cost them. Perhaps hindered by not having faced any real challenge in groupstage or QF. Samoa have improved remarkably since it ended 60-6 in opening game! It was suggested at time not playing any warm-up may have left them rusty. First side outside 'Big 3' to reach Final since France in 1968. Edited November 12, 2022 by HibeeJibee
afca32
Samoa have so many detestable players but I suppose England losing a World Cup semi final at home is always worth celebrating.
raith_94
Cracking start to England NZ in the women's semi. Looks like it could be a pretty even contest. BBC2
ICTChris
Various allegations of assault and suchlike at the England hotel after the semi final. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/world-cup-investigating-alleged-manchester-brawl-involving-roosters-star-victor-radley-20221115-p5by9b.html The Samoans drove up from London to stay at the hotel England had been staying at so some of the players took their revenge Those allegations have been denied, but the Herald has been told the same players woke up members of the Samoan team — staying at the same hotel — at about 1.30am by knocking on their room doors and running away. HibeeJibee
Australia 30-10 Samoa Samoa battled early-doors but never in doubt... Australia cut above. Old Trafford was 90% full which is pretty creditable. France host in 3yrs but unclear how much international rugby league will be held in intervening years - especially between the hemispheres. They really need to revive European Cup and Four Nations.
RH33
Side note but the guy running Edinburgh to Manchester in 7 days raise money MND was some brilliant. Over million raised, Rob Burrows and Doddie are a reminder of how awful a disease it is.

He's done some astonishing things to raise money

They really need to revive European Cup and Four Nations. Australia were always going to win, Samoa gave it a shot but their victory was getting to the final, really. I try to keep up with the Scottish National team but there doesn’t seem to be much scope for them to play. If you look back to when they made the decision to split the home nations, clearly they thought Wales would have a competitive team, they had all the union players who crossed codes - Jonathan Davies, Scott Gibbs, Scott Quinnell - and that this would build the game there. In the 95 World Cup Wales made the semis and drew crowds of 10-15k. Of course, union allowing payment killed that, meaning that there isn’t much scope for meaningful games in the Northern Hemisphere. I also understand the NRL will have a lot of say over releases for internationals making arranging games difficult. The tournament has whetted my appetite for League though, looking forward to Super League starting.

For this tournament Cooks beat South Africa then USA, with no European participant. Been confirmed Europe = 4 slots, Americas = 2 slots, with Repechage straight Africa & Middle East winner v Cook Islands: INTRL - Regional berths and qualifying tournaments for France 2025 confirmed
Eednud
NRL 2023 season got underway last night with the Eels losing at home 12-16 to the Storm. Interesting stat, the last time Storm lost an opening round game was in 2001 by 10-14 at home to the Bulldogs. They did lose their first game of the 2004 season but it was round 2 after receiving a bye in round 1. Watching the Warriors v Knights game just now and 6 minutes into the 2nd half and the Knights score a try to make it 10-10.
Eednud
Daly Cherry-Evans scored a try hat trick today and surprised that it was a career first. Sea Eagles muzzled the Bulldogs 31-6.
