Dentistry is obviously in rude health not just in Scotland but all across the UK.  People absolutely do not travel abroad for significant dental treatments according to the BDA.

https://www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/news/dental-tourism-patients-need-to-know-the-risks/

I don't think they're talking about nipping over to India for a check-up.

It's actually in the headline (clickbait).

It's not a new thing though. I remember a story from 15/20 years ago about a guy in Aberdeen travelling to Hungary for treatment. I'm just calling out the BS about travelling to India for treatment.

A couple of my mates have went to Cambodia for treatments( from Scotland and Australia) like getting crowns and root canal treatments. The dentists they've used are really modern and they saved a fortune and got a holiday into the bargain.

Has STV joined in the permanent Scotland is so shite narrative?

This 'story' is so full of holes it's unreal.

Is travelling to India actually cheaper than the cost of a private dentist? Mine certainly isn't.

Would need to be some level of treatment to justify that flight cost (let alone the hotel cost) rather than just popping into a private clinic down the road.

Do you know how much anything beyond a bog standard filling is now?

I've got a private dental plan where I pay £30 a month but still have to pay extra for things the dentist doesn't do themselves like making a crown which can be hundreds just for one. Implants are fucking thousands.

https://www.bupa.co.uk/dental/dental-care/treatments/dental-implants/cost-of-implants

And people mock labour for planning to introduce toothbrushing lessons for kids. I wish I'd paid more attention.

I am lucky, I have good teeth (I went 20 years without seeing a dentist -as I was phobic - and only needed a scale / polish when my wife forced me to go) but I needed a filling replaced last year - the amalgum one was £15 iirc, I got a white one and it was £95.

I can imagine that a lot of treatment can quickly add up but I genuinely have no idea.

I got an implant was either last year or the year before.  £2.5k.

A single crown these days is £500+.

I can easily understand why people say f**k that and combine a holiday with a trip to the dentist if they need work.
