Season start date of 17th October is under threat apparently.......

Going by 'reports' there's going to be a change in testing requirement for lower leagues where they'll need to take two tests a week, this wasn't part of the original plan so unsure how clubs will afford this. Fucking knew this would happen just as the season was about to start.

There are also concerns over the lower-league football season, which was due to start on October 17th.

That date was chosen with a view to having fans in the stadium, which would bring the revenue needed for clubs to function.

It's also unclear what new restrictions might mean for testing protocols among clubs in the Scottish Championship, League One and League Two.

Current rules mean those teams could face each other without regular testing, but that may also be reviewed.

Source? Because both of those statements are not true.

At the time clubs voted to return on Oct 17th the requirement was for two tests a week for all personnel. They voted for it knowing that was the case. Restrictions have eased since but they knew they might have to test twice a week when they agreed to return.

And at the time they voted there were no indicative dates for attendances and a general guidance that they should assume no fans in 2020. Again there were indications of a potential relaxation in that but if thats not happening then we are back to where we were when they voted to go back anyway.

They said they could do it. If they didnt think they could they should not have voted to return so early. Additional lockdowns were entirely foreseeable.

Ayr, along with other clubs took a grant that was supposed to ensure that clubs could cover testing costs. The second wave of this virus may postpone large scale crowds for the foreseeable future and possibly junior/amateur/recreational football but it shouldn't delay the return to lower league games. Provided clubs follow protocol.

This is shaping up to be a financial disaster for Scottish football.  I don’t think any lower league club can survive beyond Christmas without some kind of crowds coming back.  Well, maybe Hearts with their zillionaire backer.

Selling merchandise, PPV matches, season tickets etc will make a decent amount of cash for the clubs. They can also diversify. Online program subscriptions, or even match-day packs like they did with Scotland where they deliver a pie, program and a drink on the morning of the game. There are ways of making the same kind of revenue for the same kind of things in a different way.

Buttons mate.  No way they’ll plug the gap in lost revenue from that.  Are 1500+ people going to pay £18 to stream an Ayr game?  And bear in mind we’re already short of 5 home games for the season.  Cameron has made it clear on more than one occasion that there is no business model that allows clubs like Ayr to survive for any length of time playing behind closed doors.
We should be under no illusions about how serious this could get for us and pretty much every other club in the lower leagues.

I’d hope and expect that Ayr United were budgeting for at least a full season with no fans.

I do as well.. but theres just a nagging worry in the back of my mind that wont go away about where the confidence is coming from to be offering the 2 year deals etc.   We shall see I guess.
