Justice at last for that utterly pathetic draw we contrived against that relegation rabble back in August.

Onward, Upwards.

Ha, ha. That you have been walking about with such a heavy burden since August almost makes the result seem worth it.

Don't we only have three centre backs tho?

When McKeown signed I think the talk was that he could play there as well; Iredale has had a game or two there as well. So long as you have two regular defenders then you can probably get away with having a more mobile option on one side of the back three.

We should be in the market for another centre back in January though.

There's also a high likelihood that Dundee will take Waddell back in January now McCann's away. That would leave us with no cover at all other than Strapp returning from a loan, so another centre back is essential.

A very tense 90 minutes.  Not sure how we got away with that but when you look back, Gaston hardly had a difficult save to make (I reckon he should have got to Dobbie's strike).

Reece Lyon's goal was a superb effort.  We seem to specialise in spectacular strikes into the Terregles Street goal.

The lack of Harkins clearly didn't help Queens, but on the other hand we had Chris Millar out as well as Denny Johnstone.

Having just seen the goal, it's really poor if the the ref has booked Lyon there. All he's done is walk over to the side of the park arm in arm with his captain. Hardly jumped into the stand. Very petty even following the rules IMO.

He was close enough to the fans that they could do the big group hug thing. I thought it was obvious he'd be booked.

FWIW I think it's ridiculous those are given, nothing better than players being mobbed by the fans, but they know what the penalty is for doing it.

Eh. I don't think it was excessive. There are probably a few examples every week where players could have been booked in that situation but weren't. Shit rule anyway.

Its a fantastic strike but the defending is awful.

Two players go for the initial header but dont win it, Dykes has a swing and a miss and Lyon is standing all on his own on the edge of the box. Stirling looks like hes, kind of, picking up the man in front but he has no idea Lyon is there. Mercer does, to be fair, have his blade of grass tightly marked <_<

Clearly Martin is at fault though

I never suggested it was excessive. If he was close enough that he could be cuddled by the fans then he was always going to get booked. I doubt he'd have received a booking had he stood on the line. It is a shite rule but players are well aware of it.

It was a worse goal than I thought. Mr X is spot on, two go for a header and miss it, And Mercer goes to close it down with his back turned as though worried about taking one for the team.

First goal although Martin comes and stops it’s still up to the defenders to win the first header. Then someone tracking the guy who scores with a free header in the 6 yard box.

I'd like to see one? In theory leaving the confines of the pitch to celebrate a goal is a booking. In practice they only do it if the players reach the fans and it's always the goalscorer booked no matter how many of them do it.

Lyon ended up in amongst the fans and leaning over the perimeter wall. It's harmless, good luck to him, but he's ALWAYS going to get booked for that. Moaning that the ref was being officious is daft.

Dykes doesn't miss it. I was almost in line, he got a fair bit on it but didn't get enough distance and, ironically, sent it straight to Lyon. I suspect if he'd missed it altogether Fordyce behind him would likely have dealt with it. As you say though it's not the only error. Doyle is needlessly goes for the initial header, gets nowhere near it and takes himself out of the equation and Mercer is far too deep to deal with Lyons when the ball breaks to him.

In the cold light of day still very disappointed to have lost last night. It was the kind of game where if it finishes 1-1 you go home pleased with the way we played but disappointed we didn't find a way to force a winner our overall play deserved. However, the final ball was lacking too often. I can't recall Gaston making a save of note really (neither did Martin). We got more crosses into the box last night than we usually do but they were either too near the keeper or dealt with by Morton's defenders. They defended fairly well, particularly in dealing with Dobbie who didn't get many openings, the goal being an opportunist strike of a loose ball. Other than the goals, Todd swept one over the bar second half when he should probably have got it on target. At the other end Todd himself came up with a terrific run and last man challenge when Oliver appeared to be through after Doyle slipped. The keepers certainly weren't over-worked but it was an entertaining match.
