If you can rise above that, you might find it not to be be so irksome

Even putting that to one side, he just isn't good at his job. Regularly getting drivers wrong, making up stats and always trying to put in his shite jokes.

David Croft being over enthusiastic about everything lessens my enthusiasm when something actually exciting happens.

Lewis Hamilton closing on Verstappen with a few laps to go does not necessitate all there shouting

Also, Max should summon his inner Jim Richards and call  the people booing him when he's on the podium a pack of arseholes

'Crofty' commentates like a man determined to find a soundbite in case what's happening in front of him proves iconic. But it's just not natural for him at all.

Peter Drury does the same. But he's a fair bit brighter and his soundbites tend to be a lot sharper than just repeating the same shan patter for weeks.

See: "It's the ol' SWITCHEROO" and the "THERE'S NO VER-STOPPIN' VERSTAPPEN" patter he tried to make stick.

It feels like fake enthusiasm. Murray Walker was enthusiastic but it came across as genuine.

I'm not sure who's worse, James Allen or "Crofty"

Murray also saved his enthusiasm for moments that were actually exciting such as "and colossally that's Mansell" or "and it's happened immediately, this is amazing"  Croft will show that level of enthusiasm over passes for 8th place.

James Allen was pretty bad, but not as bad as Croft IMHO
