Many of the ‘fake’ dress shirts on sale in turkey are actually just seconds from the factory in Izmir. AyrshireTon
Was at a family dinner (on the wife's side) at the weekend. Was meant to be the in-laws (Golden Anniversary) and the two generations below, with our ages group paying for the meals. My mother-in-law inadvertently invited her brother - who then ordered the rib-eye steak.

Hedgecutter
Was down visiting my mum yesterday and I gave her husband (i.e. my step-dad) a birthday present (£30 gift voucher and a beer selection) seeing as it was his a few days ago, and mine just a few days before that. Got told by my mum "you shouldn't have bought him anything as we haven't got you anything as we're skint just now" (first I'd heard of this seeing as gifts in one form or another have always been exchanged). He then proceeded to watch the OF game and the Liverpool Spurs on their full sports subscription with a trip to the pub in between. Didn't actually bother me too much tbh but my other half feels that I should be angry that they couldn't put anything aside for it. Should I? You shouldn't be angry about a lack of gift (you're 35 you old hoor!) but the bullshit is definitely reason to be annoyed.

I hope you ignored him or told him to ram it.

However there will be a £8.40 processing fee, which we could reduce to £7.00 if you just send us a cheque for £1.40 and we call it quits."

When my dad died, his credit card company owed him something like 9p. He just ignored it and never used the thing. When he died, my mum contacted them to close the account. She had to post them his death certificate. Eventually they posted her a cheque. The postage costs alone far outweighed the amount involved.
thistledo
Some good examples of tightfistedness in there, as mentioned pubs always bring it out in people. One of the lads we meet in the pub before games isn't quite a round dodger, but will never refuse a round when people inevitably arrive at different times, I've seen him sat with 2 pints of T untouched and frantically drinking the pint he has on the go. I don't know where the line is, tbh if I'm at the halfway point of a pint I'd be inclined to accept another. There was always good stories about a lad I used to work with being a tight b*****d. Struggling to remember most of them except for making his family (of 4 or 5) use the one electric toothbrush and just swap the heads over. Whenever he told me of any money saving things he'd managed he'd always give me that same wink, smile and head nod as if he was making a huge saving on something when it was literally pennies at times.

We moved house back in the early 90s and for various reasons the transactions were complicated resulting in additional and unwelcome solicitor's fees. Nearly a year later we received a formal letter from the solicitor with a grovelling apology for an error in their fees. Our excitement was short lived when we saw the cheque for 17p.

When I was old enough to legally go to pubs (late 80s) one of our group had a bit of a reputation as a round dodger. He'd take £20 out of the bank then at the end of the night go back and deposit what he hadn't spent. He banked with the TSB who at that time, and maybe still do, had a such a deposit option. Sure he was challenging himself to return as large a % of the initial £20 as he could get away with.
Central Belt Caley
I had a pal who used to be one of those “Transfer me that £3.85 when you can mate” folk. Think it might’ve been cause he didn’t earn much at the time because nowadays he flings money about like nobody’s business.
