I know the open hasn’t been in Northern Ireland for most of our lifetimes , but the Irish players are making too much of it.

It’s the open not the irish open. I assume we will have to go through this in the future as well.

I'm not sure about that. McDowell especially grew up in Portrush - the chance to play a Major in your home town, especially when it hasn't been there for nearly 60 years is a massive thing.

They’ve been making out that this is his course.....in fact he is a member of the other one

I have no real problem with mcilroy it’s just the worship around him, if he just makes the cut, most of third and fourth coverage will still feature him even if he is not involved at the business end.

Birdie

JASON KOKRAK - 69 ⛳

Not what the +2s needed. Jason Kokrak ensures he makes the cut by making a birdie on the last for a 69 to move to +1 overall. Looks like Rory McIlory will need another birdie to make the cut.

Wild tee shot from Rory

That's the last thing he wanted. McIlroy's tee shot flies right and wherever it is, it's unlikely to be pretty.

Spectators and marshals alike are looking for it on 17.

True, but it's the same as someone who grew up playing at Loch Green qualifying at Troon. It's a home town Major. He also played Portrush hundreds of times growing up, and is an honorary member - it means a huge amount to him.
