Can’t believe we’ve waited over 3 weeks and carried out interviews and we give the job to a guy who was already lurking in the background, what a waste of a month! A woeful appointment and the “Ayr way”, getting someone inexperienced in on the cheap. I wasn’t impressed with the ICT and Dunfermline results and substitutions and fear the slide will start now Never a waste of a month , guys were interviewed to see what they are capable of , Ayr is quite unique in that the manager has a bigger part to play , the new challenge is developing from within to build a conveyer belt of players from Academy through reserves to first team , some of the guys interviews showed they are not capable of that as they tended to buy their way out of problems

We wouldn’t have interviews him without knowing the compensation figure and been willing to pay it. If you’re in the know, you’re in the know. Still makes no sense that a manager under contract would risk souring his relationship with his existing club to just throw his hat in the ring amongst 40 other candidates, even if was then cut to a short list of 6. It never happens that way. If you want someone who is in a job, you approach them after getting their board’s permission, not the other way round.

He’s desperate for a FT gig and East Fife probably know that and are ok with it hence why they gave him permission to go and apply. It’s not rocket science.

I wasn’t impressed with the ICT and Dunfermline results and substitutions and fear the slide will start nowThe Inverness game we lost solely due to at least 4 players missing absolute sitters. Wasn’t at the Dunfermline game but from the highlights we lost that due to individual mistakes at the back, as well as a worldie from their centre half. Decent performances don’t always manifest in decent results but will more often than not so I don’t think it’s quite time for the We’re Doomed attitude just yet.

Mark Kerr, on the other hand, came off the pitch on Saturday as a player and is suddenly now the manager. It's pretty evident that he would not have been anyone's first choice but I hope he proves me wrong. So being a youth team manager is enough to "earn your stripes" now? Why? All they've ever coached is kids, how's that translating to adults if they've never done it before? All of those names mentioned were relative gambles when they were given their first jobs in senior management, they each have varying degrees of success and all of them are operating at a higher level than Ayr. It's nonsense to suggest that your manager MUST have some experience before taking over. Mark Kerr is 37 years old and has been in full time dressing rooms for 20 years, I'm fairly certain he'll have some ideas about how he wants to run things and he'll take parts of the best gaffers he's worked for and make the job his. It might end up a shambles, it might end up brilliant, but those pontificating that this is an outright disaster or "laughable" are being silly. When you consider that Darren Young was the alternative, a guy who took East Fife from being play-off certainties to miss out on the play-offs altogether, I'm not sure why folk would have been more happy with him.

Thereisalight..
And I was worried about Young having a lack of upper Championship managerial experience, f’kin hell Tbh I’d rather have had Canning as manager than Mark Kerr, and that’s saying something

Iain
Ten of Ayr‘s last eleven managers now (from memory) have been guys on their first or second management gig and at least seven have been unqualified failures. It’s no wonder some folks feel snakebitten.

On both occasions we were formally approached and granted permission for him to speak to those clubs. McCall wasn’t asked to participate in a recruitment process, he was offered the job. For reasons that he never publicly elaborated on, he subsequently chose to turn them down. He has claimed recently that he turned down 4 or 5 job offers during his time at Ayr.

Hawk89
Actually quite intrigued to see how this goes, and more than willing to give Kerr the benefit of the doubt. He's clearly got a footballing brain and knows the players who are here well. Different kettle of fish to Roberts as well in terms of personality. Keep the faith, he'll likely get more wrong than right initially as it is a steep learning curve. If Sandy and Kenny hang about he has two very experienced people in his backroom to hold his hand.

ayrunitedfw
Will Kerr be backed in January with funds to bring in players? Lachlan said he would back McCall back in January last year and we ended up with two loanees. ETA: Chances of Peter Houston as assistant? Kerr played under him at Falkirk and Houston was assistant at Morton so obviously a job he’s willing to do.
