Watson RCB...Mendy as a sweeper...dafuq?

Agreed, but what is the other choice if Davo is injured? Mendy/McKay/Bene sound any better? How about Miller/McKay/Bane/MacDonald and no threat down the wings?

Davo looked like he'd tweaked  his hamstring, McGlynn says he had the cold last week and that he did well to last 85 mins. No mention of an injury.

On another note we lost 3 goals today in the league, when was the last time we shipped 3 with a back 3 central defence? Or in other words, why did he (McGlynn) change it?

And this should be the concern...if Davo is out for Airdrie, we have 2 proven CB’s and Mendy. Granted, Airdrie haven’t looked the threat they were earlier this year, but they are completely capable of taking advantage of the game plan Montrose just have to the League...bomb high balls into the box against Munro and Raith!

I don’t know if I’m more surprised to be hoping Davo isn’t injured or Mendy has improved enough to start against Airdrie! Not that I wish an injury to any player, but I have been vocal in suggesting he get some time “riding the pine”.

f**k that attitude Zen. We will just score more than the opposition. Where’s your sense of fun?

I doubt we’ll see Mendy in a Rovers shirt this season so we can forget pinning our hopes on him getting a game. If Davo is out McKay will play alongside Bene. There’s no ifs/buts/maybes about it.

With who else? If it's Miller and MacDonald in a back four, we've just neutered our best attacking threats down the wings, as they can't bomb forward from a back four like a back five. Watson for Miller, and try Miller at defensive mid...seems a bit iffy as he's never really done that for any serious amount of time, and still leaves MacDonald, our best crossing attacking defenseman out of that game.

As for seeing Mendy on the field, in a Rovers jersey...we will see it before the next Fife Derby.

Here are this week's highlights...

Looks a cracking game played at a really high pace. Perhaps lucky to get away with the handball at 3-2 and Bowie and Tait tried thier best to miss the third and fourth goals. Fine margins and all that.

Watched the highlights there as I missed today through work.

Great move for the first goal but terrible awareness from Montrose number 4. Has no idea where Matthews is and gets himself all tangled up. Great finish by Matthews to stab it home. Bowie's strike of the ball is sweet for the 2nd - loved the camera angle from the McDermid Stand for that one. Third goal Bowie's movement is good but the Montrose number 14 won't want to see it again. Absolutely all over the place and seems to forget he's tracking the striker and gets lost watching the ball. Hopefully this can be the start of Bowie getting himself back into a wee run of form. He's had a spell in and out the team - which he probably needed - but he's done superbly today to come back into the 11 and get the goals. Mad to think he's still only just turned 17.

Great ball for the Montrose first goal, totally splits Davidson and Miller and takes them both out the game. Second goal is Davidson losing his man; rather, never actually getting his man. He isn't the right side of Niang at all, Dreadful defending. Handball claim definitely hits Davidson's thigh and not his hand, though it did take a second watch on the zoom to see it properly. Tait then tries his best to miss the 4th and ultimate winner - he probably missed the target with his shot but Lennox inadvertently diverts it into the net by getting something on it. A fucking terrible goal to lose tbh, I'd be mortified if that was us. Speaking of being mortified, WTF is Munro doing flapping at thin air at the Mo 3rd? Horrendous attempt at getting something on it. How very RRFC that we've got 4 goalie's and it doesn't seem like any are quite right.

Chances to kill the game at the death but didn't require it in the end. Notice Baird being absolutely fizzing with Spencer at the end?

We need to learn to just fucking win a few games 2 and 3-0. Falkirk look like they've finally got their shit together and we won't get away with throwing away leads time and time again. Still, another win and still top. Huge game next week.

Fair enough about Munro for the third goal. The guys 19, he’ll make mistakes. Not sure he was at fault for the other 2 Montrose goals though. Least we don’t have Lennox now. Bowie’s second goes under him quite easily and Taits one Jesus, think he chucks it in there. Thanks Aaron. ;)

OK, took in the highlights:

1:03 Dingwall to Matthews, absolutely beautiful pass, and a skillful finish, goal Rovers. Montrose #4 was at sea.

2:03 Munro spills a ball.

2:37 Dreadful Munro clearance due to pissing around with the ball in the back, results in a nice long range shot for Montrose.

3:08 Tait to Bowie, very nice vision and then finish, goal Rovers.

4:29 Munro spills again.

4:38 Baird in lovefest with Montrose defender, love to see that set to something romantic.

4:47 Matthews cross (was fed by a lovely Dingwall pass from the back) to Bowie, who sucessfully hits the goalie despite havong half the goal open...lucky, goal Rovers.

6:19 Miller and Davo switched off...Miller allowed the player to be goalside with the ball inbound, and Davo just eased off, Montrose goal.

7:20 Horrible marking, Miller misses the ball, and Davo does nothing on the backside, goal Montrose.

8:04 Slow-mo replay shows Davo's thigh, not his hand...imagine if that had been a penalty...

8:20 Baird on the break, Dingwall gives up, you can see he's toast, but Tait continues at full bore. Deflection, hard to tell, might have still gone in.

9:05 Note that this shows clearly that Baird was in an offside position when Tait shot, and he smartly didn't play the ball...kudos to baird for that intelligence!

9:46 Munro flaps like a drunken tourist at Mardi Gras, and Bene pretends to jump, Montrose goal.

10:28 Spencer's clearance forward isnt pretty or perfect, but it gaves Tait a chance, which he takes, and then misses.

11:26 We see Baird exploding at the shot taken by Spencer rather than a pass to Baird. Continues past 11:43 and the fade out. Honestly, any pass should have been to GAndo, out on the right.

Thoughts after rumination:

- Montrose made a switch at the half and we responded poorly. It also gives other teams a possible blueprint to a weakness.

- Dingwall was excellent for the first 50-60 minutes, then faded out.

- Baird and Miller on the same team might be catastrophic.

- Tait's a baller, and probably a better prospect than Bowie.

- Davo was struggling all game, so maybe the sub was no for any other issue than that.

- Miller, at RB vice RWB, is a liability that Watson isn't. Watson, at RWB, isn't nearly the threat that Miller is going forward.

- Bene was almost invisible this game...that can be good or bad.

- Munro needs to sit a bit, because something is wrong.

- Matthews has a huge motor to get back like he does.

- Both Tait and Bowie's conditioning has improved, previously they would wear out at about 65-75 minutes.

Quite a weird game actually.

Montrose absolutely dominated the ball in the first half, but didn't really create much at all. We were clinical. When it clicked, our play going forward was very good, and whilst there were faults from Montrose, it was 3 very good goals from us.

2nd half was just pretty shit but fair play to Montrose who just went for it. First goal I still feel the keeper has to either get there or trust the defence, he does neither, but it's a good finish. 2nd was awful marking and 3rd was again poor from Munro.

That said, at 3-2 we still had over half an hour to go and to be honest, Montrose didn't ever come close to an equaliser. Would have liked us to at least hold the two goal lead, but we weren't under any real danger even at 4-3. If anything we should have had another couple.

I still think there's something different about this team compared to last season. We all left a bit dissapointed yesterday, but took 4 goals off one of the form teams in the league and really could have had another couple.

It's easy to say that we should be bringing in defenders and not strikers, but Bowie won't give us that every week. He was excellent yesterday (some in the crowd strangely don't like him) but still very young. We are still creating and missing a decent number of chances, and I think I good striker could see us give someone a bit of a doing to be honest. The defence needs to go to the back 3,and that will improve things immensely.

Lastly, fair play to Mcglynn for chucking Dylan Tait in the team at East Fife. What a fantastic young talent. For all that McGlynn got stick before for not trusting youth players (madness), we got 3 goals yesterday from teenagers he has taken a gamble on. Great to see. And personally, with Bowie, it's fucking fantastic to see a young Rovers fan from Templehall thriving on that pitch.

At 3-2 we were under immense pressure, and we saw it out. That's progress in my opinion.
