Yeah, there needs to be a change in policy towards sick days I think, and something more like Asia where if you have even a cold, you use face masks.

A big change needed tbf.

Firstly in those that trigger discipline when there are 3 periods of sickness in a time frame, and also from day to day management whereby often pressure is applied to come in as the assumption is you are at it.

Both of those will play huge factors in people coming in to work when unfit.

If anything it may encourage businesses and staff to think twice about attending work when ill.

One of the best things that can come out of this is an end to the workplace warrior who will "get on with it" and infect half the office with his illness.

If you get the cold and are able to do so - work at home for the week. Risk management procedures ought to be implementing this immediately as part of return to work plans.

I do wonder what is coming in with immediate effect and what won’t be. I’d imagine pubs might be held back for a little while.
I think there will be a loosening of restrictions when it comes to seeing friends and family but imagine pubs will be held back for at least another couple of weeks.

I’m imagining they’ll be told to prepare for reopening of beer gardens from X date and internally from X date.

Not a fucking chance will the majority of businesses give up the unspoken power afforded by the "wee chat about your recent absence".

Similarly, the self-motivated attention-seeking workplace warriors who'd turn up with Ebola will only change their behaviour if they can somehow martyr themselves by making a show of staying at home to protect the workplace. Not sure how we pull that off. Maybe erect in-office memorials for Karen, who selflessly saved an estimated 430 working hours this year by staying in her fucking bed and not infecting everyone else with the flu.

Dundee have upped the % of time pupils are planned to be in - 50% by week 3.

My line manager who is the depute responsible for timetabling thinks we'll be back full-time by August.

Seems sensible.

Far too sensible. Edinburgh seem to be at the other end of the scale  -some schools are 1 day a week and a 2nd day every third week....!

Long time till August and I hope the schools here will be two days a week minimum for a week or two until they ramp up to full time - might actually help the kids get used to actually having to go to school again!

I work in a shift job where if you’re not there then someone has to come out their day off and cover you at time & a half, there isn’t normally much sick absence not even during the pandemic but up until now most people would not call in sick if they had normal cold & flu symptoms. Can see management having a heart attack next winter when every sniffle means 7 days isolation !

I understand one of the joys of zero-hours contracts is that, if an employee has to take time off due to illness, they'll find themselves struggling for hours upon their return. Never been in this position, thankfully, but I've known enough people who have been punished by their employer in this way to think there's something to it. No reason why a business wouldn't do that, I suppose, other than common decency and compassion, which doesn't win bonuses.

Ns basically confirms we are moving to phase 2 on twitter...this sticking to a plan that is working malarky will never catch on

I think we need to be including some of the phase 3 plans in phase 2.  The economy is trashed and it will get even worse in a few months when a large number of those furloughed find out that they are surplus to requirements.

Phase 2is on.

Everyone looking forward to sitting on picnic tables next to the bins of some horrible pub, drinking disgusting fizzy lager while fending off wasps as sunburned fat idiots wearing Sports Direct get ready to punch each other?

I remember chalk dusters being flung across the classroom.

Smartboards have ruined that method for my generation of teachers...

If you got hit with one of them, you knew all about it.

Youngsters have it easy these days...

I remember 60+ years ago when I was in High School the English teacher would throw the wooden chalk duster at you if you weren't paying attention.

He would throw it at me and miss, then he would shout at me to pick it up and hand it back to him.

When I handed it back and turned to walk back to my desk he would then throw it and clatter me on the back of my head.

Happy daze.

There is plenty of scope for decent outside areas to be created by Scottish pubs.

People already pay to book booths inside pubs. Outside areas will pay for themselves if drinkers pay a fee to use them.
