DeeTillEhDeh
So why didn't the SG just sign off on that green list and lifting quarantine restrictions from Friday 10th, while reserving the right to review the dodgy cases? Spoiler A: Because it was more politically convenient for it to completely distance itself from English policy, even at the expense of the aviation sector and all common sense. To be honest getting 30 minutes notice and no chance to look at the accompanying data (especially for those countries on the Amber list) was always going to result in this.It is an utter gift for the Scottish Government in terms of emphasing the difference between their cautious strategy and Johnson's fly by the seat of your pants strategy.A few more days is not going to be the end of the world.Even deep down you know that.
smpar
Just back from big Tesco and I’d say about 10% of us had a face covering on. At one point I noticed 15/16 people across 2 aisles not wearing a covering. -

Guest bernardblack
Went past a couple of beer gardens in dundee after work and they both looked very calm, with everyone distanced. Hope that stays the same

I walked past 2 in Perth today. The welcome inn was quite busy in the afternoon, however the Bank Bar in town was pretty much empty. I think with them being opened on a Monday with most people starting to return to work has seen them a lot quieter then they used to be.

AyrshireTon
The queue outside the Buff in Prestwick was neither orderly nor socially distanced. Folk had to go into the main road to avoid them.

true_rover
Only 5% of people having had it would be totally out of sync with the understood mortality rate - it's likely to be 3 to 4 times that. There is a lot of research just now on whether people have a different level of susceptibility - potential if that's the case then you could have a scenario where 15% of people get 80% of the infections, taking you to herd immunity much quicker.

The impression I got was that this was unusual and your normal antibody test wouldn't measure this. Could quite easily have been some bonkers article posted by some raving lunatic on twitter mind you, but it came across more serious science than that.

It's not largely unsubstantiated for a start, has a massive cohort, shows that some areas have up to 17% prevalence, is peer reviewed and ties in with more than a couple of other similar studies in other places that had similar findings.
pandarilla
Not only was it implied it was fine to go to the pub, the government essentially said it was people's civic duty to go out on "Super Saturday" to save the economy.I noticed that royal ascot was a pretty major event that took place on Saturday (derby day) - perfect timing for the great and good to enjoy their champagne.I wonder if that played a part in the choice of date. It goes without saying that certain industries and events have more clout than others with the highest decision makers in the land.
peasy23
Ladies and gentlemen of P&B, I extend a warm and cordial invitation to meet up in the beer garden of The Brass Button in Motherwell. If you are lucky you'll get the seats furthest from the bins.
