Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

If they’re going to do it they should stop fucking hinting about it like yer mrs over a christmas present ‘oh wouldnt a circuit breaker be just lovely this year’. Last time they shut businesses it was a nightmare to get alternative childcare arrangements and they’ll now expect emergency and nhs workers to get it sorted again with what will be less than a weeks notice. They’re absolutely losing the plot.

Parents can just magic up babysitters and holidays from nowhere and businesses can lose two weeks revenue?

Well, in fairness, even if Covid wasn't a thing it's not like folk get to the end of September and then have a SURPRISE!!!!! October holiday to think of.

Most childcare providers/private nurseries stay open during school holidays but during the last lockdown ours was forced to close by the LA, the alternative provision wasn’t suitable so it is a nightmare.

Are the SG just thick or completely devoid of any ideas outside of "aw we better just shut everything".

We had a lockdown for 3-4 months and *shock horror* cases started to rise when things reopened, schools in particular. What difference do they really think a 2 week lockdown is going to make given the first lockdown has already shown that there were only short to mid-term benefits at best.

I'd also expect that compliance with a 2nd lockdown would be far lower than first time round. Back in March there was a genuine feeling amongst more or less everyone that we were "in this together" but, despite what that muppet Devi might say, that clearly isn't the case today. Not everyone's job is hanging by a thread, not everyone's mental health is in tatters and not everyone has been unable to see some relatives since March.

In short, Nicola and Jason can get the idea of a 2nd lockdown right in the bin as far as I'm concerned.

How many LAs around the country don't have schools off for 2 weeks in October?

Falkirk and West Lothian have one, Stirling have two?

South Lan one, pretty sure North are one too. Perth have (or at least used to have) two

Just as I'm starting to get some strength back the Crankie regime talks about shutting the gym. Raging.

Asking businesses to swallow the costs of a shutdown at short notice that probably won't make any difference overall would surely be politically suicidal. Extremely bad news for domestic tourism.

And in news that should shock no one holiday hot spot Turkey have admitted they are fudging their infection figures. Todd may have stayed over there to straighten them out.

Always lovely to see a slip of the mask, although tbf there's not much I'd argue with otherwise

People tempted to go off on a holiday.

It was about this time of the year when the cheap holidays were available.

Hope no one booked any flights during those weeks?

exactly, could you get a fine for doing so? if you could i'd be fuckin raging if there was any attempt to stop folk leaving the country,  Last time round going abroad was pretty pointless as everywhere else was under much the same rules as us or worse, not so now . i'd rather be in Portugal for a fortnight than stuck here with everythin shut again

Today's random restrictions, by region

THE government will today announce a new set of regional Covid restrictions, all of which are different and none of which are comprehensible. Here they are:
North London: Pubs to open on odd-numbered hours only to discourage all-day drinking. Conversely, restaurants will open on even-numbered hours only. Wetherspoons counts as both.
East Ayrshire: Masks to be worn indoors at all times unless drinking or eating, and hats to be worn at all times when drinking or eating. One-way system instigated in The Harbour Bar, Troon, ONLY.
Warwickshire: Families allowed to meet each other indoors as long as they are blood relatives. In-laws must stand in the garden and wave. Conversation about cars permitted.
Powys: Evacuation of Powys and mid-Wales begins at 2am tomorrow and must be completed by 6am. Anyone remaining in the area after that point will be fined.
Barsetshire: Households may mix in groups of six and six only. If there are five or fewer people, mixing will be punishable by tarring, feathering and banishment.
Bolton: Lockdown is now permanent.
Luton: Everyone to be given a medal.
County Fermanagh: Hairdressers and nail bars closed from Friday but live music performances indoors are authorised as long as there are 7,500 or more attendees and the band is Def Leppard.
Rutland: All restrictions waived to encourage tourism to region. Grouse shooting from quad bikes subsidised at £140 per person, per day.
Isle of Wight: Rule of six continues to apply. 10pm curfew continues to apply. Media blackout on Dominic Cummings’ Covid app gaining sentience and taking over local government and police force continues to apply.

Nah they'll be fine due to the shite opposition, everyone pushing for indy, and the fact the Scottish electorate largely treats politics like a fitba team

Doesn't even make any sense whether it would happen on school holidays or otherwise.  If we need locked up for a two week period it should start tomorrow.  We obviously don't or it would be happening then.

If this is to coincide with school holidays then they need to outline exactly why the nation is running to a school timetable if that reopening schools is not the issue at hand.

Are any of our terrible journalists picking at this?
