The UK's psycho brigade should be relentlessly hounded into explaining why their advice differs. Van Tam effectively answered this the other day. There's no reason other than, essentially, it isn't fair so we'll all move together.
Michael W
I did raise a wry smike at Van Tam saying it was very safe for two vaccinated people to meet each other indoors. Good news, clearly, but begs a key question: why isn't it allowed, then? We are at the stage now where some restrictions are being kept almost maliciously. EdinburghPar1975
Just now, Michael W said: I did raise a wry smike at Van Tam saying it was very safe for two vaccinated people to meet each other indoors. Good news, clearly, but begs a key question: why isn't it allowed, then? I think a lot of their plan is based on behavioural science and the 'fear' is that by allowing some to do it and not everyone there would be meet ups indoors between large groups that haven't been vaccinated. Basically i think they're saying that folks would just say that if 'they're' doing it then 'i'm' doing it. Good to see others are lifting restrictions completely (or nearly completely) for folks who've had the double dose - hopefully putting pressure on our governments. Reckon there may be a slight easing of the restrictions remaining post the election next week if the figures stay the same.
madwullie
Went out for a steak in Glasgow last night then on to a bar for a couple of baltic outdoors gins. Good Times. The bar provided blankets at every table. Cheers lads

Read that article this morning. Harrowing stuff.

I think most normal people are now just quietly going about meeting family and friends whenever and wherever they like. I know I am but definately we need to open the wider economy now because for the last year we've been existing not living. Get us back to the football, gigs, and whatever else people like to do for fun. We can't live like this indefinately because "we just don't know!!!" Re your first point - I was in the town yesterday for a scran and was also dragged round the shops, but there was a tangible feeling that, despite the ongoing theatre of mask wearing and hand hygiene etc, people really just don't give a f**k any more and want to move on with their lives. No distancing or shrieking out of the way, etc. This is how pandemics end - socially as well as epidemiologically. Last summer or even before Christmas, there wasn't that same feeling. Princes Street was also the busiest I've seen it since before this whole shit show, but obviously won't be as it was until the tourists return. We're at the point now where it's simply the Scottish and UK Governments, and assorted loser politicians, who are dragging this out for the sake of the curtain twitchers and Lovejoy types.

Bairnardo
Every time I see phrases like "people will be allowed to hug" it sends a wee shiver down my spine. Allowed.... Get these emergency laws to f**k now.
superbigal
If you actually look at the Indian situation on an infection basis it is not that bad. The 7 day infection rate is about 188 per 100K. In Europe currently about 15 countries running higher infection rates than that. What it does show is any "3rd world" (Hate that description) country with even a fairly high infection rate can end up in a nightmare situation because of healthcare issues. To have got 16 months into the pandemic without this happening on the sub continent or Africa until now is frankly astonishing. Get that Vaccine into these places before it kicks of in the next one.

Elixir
Another reason why 'vaccine passports' are a fucking dreadful idea that should never happen: It won't be forgotten if the Scottish Government further marginalises these groups from society.

mizfit
Away around the pals for a BBQ tonight. If the weather isn’t good we’ll be under the Gazebo with a takeaway and a few cans, despite all of us having at least one dose his wife is being fairly cautious still. Doesn’t bother me too much. Tomorrow my pals coming around for the football and a few pints from the Sub. Then away into town for a beer garden regardless of the weather. Got a break away booked for next weekend. Fairly happy. Travelling to London is still up in the air for the Euros, we’ve a debate about if we go or not as half can’t be bothered if there’s restrictions still in force. We’re no far away now troops.
Have some faith in Magic
The social lockdown is absolutely binned by 90% of the population and has been for a couple of months at least. The economic restrictions are just a pointless waste of time and just seem dogmatic to me. The need to cling onto a few cases in Moray is depressing (unless the MP is held personally responsible and jailed), no doubt when we get a flare up of any sorts the clamour to get things shut down in town X will start again. The link between cases and hospitalisation and death has been broken so let's speed up getting back to normal please.

I'm swithering on my commitment to go to London for the Euros with the boys. As much for personal reasons as for concerns that lingering restrictions may put a dampener on the trip though. 6 minutes ago, Have some faith in Magic said: The social lockdown is absolutely binned by 90% of the population and has been for a couple of months at least. The mood of people, to my eye at least, seems to be a return to "normal" due to lockdown fatigue. People have had enough now and restrictions are no longer effective as they can't and won't be adhered to indefinitely. The restrictions initially were mostly well respected, but now other than a lot of businesses being closed or restricted, life has been reset mainly as people in general have migrated back to their lives regardless.

Yesterday's figures had 75 people in hospital with COVID across the whole of Scotland. Virtually all the vulnerable groups have been jagged, so get these restrictions fired into the fucking sun.

Yep, people are still getting Covid, but hospital numbers are declining, almost daily. There's a clear lack of a link between the two things now.
