Ginaro
Three weeks ago cases were at 333 average, two weeks ago it was 463 (up 1/3rd). Normally it's two weeks for the hospital numbers to reflect that - one week ago we were at 114 (10), now it's 121 (14).
scottsdad
I listened to Linda Bauld on the radio this morning, and think The National is mis-reporting her. She was the one saying fanzones were safe as they were outdoors and people will by and large maintain some distancing. She joked that if things go Scotland's way people might start embracing each other and that has some risk, but she was really playing it all down. The National is some rag. I then made the mistake of listening to Radio Scotland at lunchtime. Even the story about the cruise ship - an interview with someone booked on the cruise now having to change her plans, and she was asked "how angry does it make you that your holiday plans have changed, given what is being allowed at the Fanzone" - everything they talked about, and the BBC reporters were shoehorning the fanzone in. Sorry, the "controversial" fanzone.

Sorry, the "controversial" fanzone. is this a old rule that cruises are only allowed if the whole country is in level 1 or is it some goalpost shifting by the government? If it's an old rule then tough. Rightly or wrongly if those were the rules then you have nothing to complain about. If it's goalpost shifting then try directing the blame where it squarely lies. ETA it does seem bizarre that a cruise ship that set sail from the UK and will only be docking in UK ports isn't classed as travel within the UK which is of course allowed. What makes a cruise ship different from a plane? Edited June 9, 2021 by Left Back
parsforlife
We’re absolutely smashing f**k out this virus eh. Its able to spread, but just about every time it manages to infect someone it’s sent packing . The reasons to fear infections are rapidly disappearing. No reason to not accelerate our way back to normality(not new normal, not living with the virus, not level 0)

The companies running uk cruises with Scottish schedules were allegedly advised of the situation two weeks before their itineraries commenced but it appears MSC in this case assumed it was only the actual port being visited that had to be in L1. Marella (Tui) seemed to have been more aware however they are primarily a UK customer base whereas MSC is an Italian firm.

Lovejoys talking about the sacrifices we’ve made for months that is going to be “ruined”, the maws saying how they can’t go to sports days. The thing is going to be so sanitised and is outdoors where even loon ball experts have admitted transmission is basically non existent. Getting to host games at Euro 20/21 should have been a proud moment for Scotland, especially with the national team involved after so long. Instead its just an utter farce It is clearly people who have no idea of how being a football fans works or they are not interested in football so just see it as something to moan about. As someone said earlier guarantee no one will be moaning about the cultural/concert events. It's as if they seriously think people are can be convinced to sit in the house on their own to watch the tournament including the Scotland games. If you are a football fan you know that is just not how it works. It's a social thing in a big way. The thing that makes me laugh about the whole thing is that if these people moaning about the fanzone took a second to think about it in terms of the virus they are trying to act as if they are worried about (and show some common sense) it is better to have 3000 people a session outdoors at tables of 6 rather than these groups of 6 going to pubs that will already be packed out for the game. Never mind the vaccinations, being outdoors and the clear link with the vaccine meaning many less people are ending up in hospital now even with cases increasing. Those saying that pubs etc would be half empty because of a fanzone in Glasgow Green are clueless. If your pub is half empty during a summer football tournament and especially during Scotland's first games at a tournament for near enough a quarter of a century the problem is your pub not your fanzone.

The rule is stupid but comparing it in with a fanzone is also moronic

All opposition parties, the papers, the TV, publicans and the non football public are now clamouring for major restrictions or cancellation. It's an absolute joke. NotThePars
This energy bar chat at Hampden and the national meltdown over a fanzone in Glasgow Green should’ve been the nail in the coffin for any sorta grown up conversation. I think it’s impossible in Britain’s public sphere to engage with the covid restrictions without driving yourself insane.
