Last year people were being ridiculed, cancelled and banned from social media for suggesting this, now it's officially accepted as likely.

There was always something a bit 'Salisbury' about it. A deadly substance/virus being found along the road from one of the few laboratories in the world with the capabilities to manufacture it, but the mere suggestion of this as a possibility deemed preposterous.

Trump was quite widely mocked for many things, but something about the way he went on about China and Covid always stuck in my mind that maybe with his wee outbursts he was repeating what he was told in classified briefings. We have known for a while now that the lab in Wuhan was experimenting with bat viruses, the Chinese initial reaction was to deny there even was an issue etc until they couldnt contain it any more.

If its proven that China was absolutely beyond a doubt then there has to be action taken to hold them to account.

There can be no consequences for China. The world is too beholden to China for components.

Again, like Swinney's answer about pubs, I've no issue with this.

Let people decide what they want to do, knowing that some choices may result in them missing out on something else.

The fact that the US has likely been funding this research in Wuhan complicates trying to pin it on China alone, and is probably why it was such a taboo subject.

Rand Paul grilling Dr Fauci on this in the senate makes for entertaining viewing.

Nonsense. It's either a life or death public health issue, or it isn't. Most with left-leaning political beliefs will bend over backwards to avoid any criticism of minorities who refuse vaccination, but will happily put the boot into white "refuseniks".

Looking at the demographics for London (45% "White British" in 2011), I'd wager that a sizable chunk of that group are black or Asian. It's time to stop pandering to these clowns and label them conspiracy theorist anti-vax retards, like we do with whites, to guilt-trip/pressure them into getting vaccinated.

This is all quite grim. If Whitty/WHO/most of the scientists are saying we're in a bit of soup, I'd be inclined to believe them over all the armchair immunologists. Trouble now is that with such a large sense of distrust all over, no government can successfully order a circuit breaker in time and expect to get the compliance required to have any effect. That notwithstanding, winter is always when the deck is stacked against in terms of all respiratory disease, so the frantic preparation for this (like so much of the handling of this pandemic) is utterly criminal.

Yet again, everyone is left to make their own risk/reward balance and the people in charge of being in charge are outsourcing responsibility for our actions. Wonderful. GL all.

So im curious, any chance we can have a poll so we can see how "bad" it really is? are some of us just ignorant?

It would be:

  1. Do you know someone who has directly died from covid
  2. Do you know someone who has become seriously ill from covid
  3. Neither of above.
