Pretty rare means something different from "no flu". Influenza got outcompeted by COVID-19 due to COVID's much higher R0 and the absence of any prior immunity within the population but it wasn't eliminated by it or by the restrictions and will bounce back again in future. To get back to your original point check out what the models claimed should happen with COVID-19 in Sweden in April 2020 when they didn't go completely overboard on restrictions and what actually happened there. The initial modelling that led to Boris going bananas over Dyson ventilators that were never needed and overdoing it on the lockdown restrictions (note I am not saying that there wasn't a need for any restrictions at that point or that none were in place in Sweden) got it wrong because COVID's IFR turned out to be about an order of magnitude lower than what was being fed into the models based on initial CFR numbers from Wuhan. Or it could be that mitigations have been more effective against flu than covid, aided by our higher immunity. Covid doesn't stop people getting the flu. https://www.healthline.com/health-news/why-the-flu-season-basically-disappeared-this-year -

These people are "selfish," "Rangers fans," "Tories" or "bitter Unionists." People that don't do those things will happily pack shops and sit at their pre-booked table in a bar or restaurant (wear their mask as soon as they leave their seat) fully believing that they are different and being safe, responsible, and "saving the NHS." They view these things as such because NS, JL etc have told them that this is the case.

effeffsee_the2nd
You must be traveling on a particularly bourgeois service, because the Lee Wallace brigade are conspicuous by their lowly deference in west-central Scotland. I’m not in anyway a hard looking c**t but since I’ve entered my 30s I’ve always found a dry and firm “whits that got tae dae wi you” will get you the peace you need, most folk are shitebags who don’t like confrontation

I should really get an award . No doubt one of Nicola’s minions is thrashing that out, getting focus groups involved, and I will be awarded it presently. The howls of protest from the public health lobby about 'Reckless Tory Freedom Day!' in July (which resulted in lower cases than under restrictions) trashed the authority of SAGE, never mind the Gurdasani brigade. Which left the data for Omicron alone - obvious back of a fag packet nonsense in the UK context, and demonstrated to be inaccurate by all the real-world evidence streaming in from South Africa. That is the context in which a rebellion was possible and it was absolutely informed by the data. Or at least, the knowledge that the data being presented to the public and Parliament alike was both incomplete and misleading.

That's not a defence of the other 3 nations BTW - it looks to me that Drakeford and Givan (and before him Foster) are as intrinsically conservative as we know Sturgeon is. And with zero opposition within their parties or from the opposition itself we won't see the sort of opposition we've seen at Westminster.

It has definitely become more polarised and the mask- theatre is a classic example (and why it’s probably been used as a free- cost to government and highly visible method of compliance). We were out for a few drinks last night and there was zero table service, young folk hugging and dancing around etc but then you’d get the rare person pop on a filthy cloth rag to walk literally a few paces to the toilet. Great to see folk ignoring Sturgeon’s “heads gone” egotistical rules tbh and hopefully replicated throughout Scotland. Is it @pozbairdwho goes to the gym and has a bunch of middle aged women who gaggle and cackle like hyenas after their water aerobics, yet scream at each other to mask up, when they wander a few steps away from their table? Try drinking on a Scotrail train - it's not the staff who police it but the other passengers!! It's a bizarre one because you can drink on Transpennine Express, LNER etc throughout the journey in Scotland. they're resolving it on those services by switching to a shitey trolley with bad booze options so forgetful dafties like me have nothing good to drink
the snudge
Walked down Dumbarton Road through Partick last night and there was no table service in the pubs I passed. You wouldn't have known they were under restrictions. Great to see and I hope everywhere else is the same. Totally over this now, hopefully Jason Leitch can f**k off back to his scale and polish job soon.
