ICTChris
Looks like Christmas bubbles are getting deflated in badly hit parts of England - London and South East.

ICTChris
Scottish Government having an unscheduled meeting, I’d say it’s likely our bubbles will also be popped.
Ron Aldo
I totally agree, but it worries me just how little that is being said. It's probably to stop people getting "complacent".I also believe that's the tactic being used for pushing coverage of this new variant. I'm no expert but doing a bit of reading would suggest it's not uncommon for coronaviruses to mutate. It seems too coincidental that this is being pushed when vaccines are being rolled out as the news of a vaccine could see wider disregard for the restrictions.

Someone will be doing modelling for vaccines and the point at which it breaks the chains of transmission effectively as well as protects the hospitals. I certainly heard someone associated with one of the vaccine development teams who said a fifth of the population was the magic number for binning restrictions. Unsurprised to see that get little coverage. Too busy shrieking about the MUTANT STRAIN!!!@!

mizfit
My family were already priming all the usual rows so if Wee Nippy Sturgeon stops us having to attend I'll call that a winI’ve a feeling the Oxford vaccine is going to be announced before Christmas. This’ll counteract the inevitable UK Wide lockdown.
Gaz
Absolutely astonished that the prospect of yet another Lockdown seems to be raising its head at the entirely coincidental time the schools are due to go off again.
Ron Aldo
Seeing rumours on Twitter that London and much of the south of England are being put into a new "tier 4" and being told to stay home at Christmas. Bubbles still allowed in tiers 1-3 with the message being to stay local.

It's almost as if they are determined to avoid a situation which might see the cases go down when the schools are off, without having a lockdown to hold up as the reason.

Only the audience know! What a brilliant idea! It could be expanded to take in the Windsor family, UK Government, a certain fitba' team

super_carson
The cynic in me suggests that this new strain (of which there have been loads already) is being used as an excuse to cancel the Christmas plans, which the governments have been increasingly criticised for, in a bid to undo a decision that they never should have made without looking weak or indecisive. Will people, with less than a week to go and food already bought and plans made, actually stick to it? Probably not enough, and then when we got shoved into yet another lockdown (Lockdown 7: Mission to Wuhan?) the finger will be pointed at individual's actions rather than governments' (and I mean both WM and the SG) inability to see beyond lockdown, rinse and repeat. Begs the question, what would happen if the vaccines couldn't be found or didn't work...what would the exit strategy be? Or do we think we already know the answer to that... I fully expect to still be in class on Monday morning btw...

Michael W
I, for one, simply don't believe that the Government is about to cancel the Christmas relaxations for the South East, East of England and London. Boris Johnson said so previously that it wouldn't be cancelled, and he never performs very quick u-turns.
Sherrif John Bunnell
I'm shocked that the Tories would try and bury this news on a Saturday evening. Even more shocked that it's been leaked to the press first.

Westminster doesn't have an election for 4 years, the sooner it's over the better for them politically, lessons learnt and forgotten about.
