It might not be illegal to be drunk on a train (and nor should it be, being drunk in itself should never be a crime), but I refuse to believe that the police do not have the power to deal with anyone who is behaving in an obnoxious manner and is disturbing other passengers. That is basically a literal description of "breach of the peace".

Even excluding my usual commute, I'd say I use the trains most weekends and it is very rare that my journey is in any way affected by drunk people, hen parties or anything else like that.

Thats not what I said? Next post i literally just described taking action to prevent a breach of the peace. Regardless Budmeister’s just confirmed existence of a byelaw. I agree with you being drunk itself isnt illegal, but there are a few weird quirks of Scots law that include offences for being drunk and quarralsome in licensed premises and being drunk and incapable.

Has Swinney just said that a "fair proportion " of teachers and police officers will be prioritised as they fall into the groups to be vaccinated first ?

Teachers possibly but policy officers over 50 still on frontline duties making them more susceptible to C19 will be a tiny minority of the force.

Yeh probably few under 50 at the rank of PC, but you’ll still have shift sergeants and inspectors over that age who work shifts and respond to incidents too. You’ve also got a large number shielding for things like being on immunosuppressant medication for cancer or Crohns disease who are absolutely desperate to be back at their work, I certainly know of at least 3 people in this category. You’ll also have people in specialist roles like CID investigating murders etc who are at significant risk too. You’ve got a large proportion of older in service cops in public facing jobs like keeping order at courts too which is a very essential function.

The railway byelaw cover just about anything from dirty clothes to cattle honestly, most are derived from the Victorian era so we’re pretty strict but they have been updated. As for a minor Breach yes the Railway equivalent is “ Disorderly Conduct “

Taking this thread down another path I know (as if it wasn't already).... but Ive always thought BTP must be one of the worst jobs ever. A constant stream of drunks, suicides and fannies trying to avoid their fares.

Possibly already posted in the last few pages. But interesting that a mass participation event in the Uk is scheduled for October (having been shifted from April)

There's 3 mass participation events scheduled for the South side of Glasgow in June, doesn't mean it's going to happen !

SG have also started recruitment for staff to work at the Climate change conference in Glasgow in November.

Isn’t there a crazy law that states it’s illegal to be drunk in a pub?

ETA.  Licensing act 1872 in England.  Doesn’t apply here.

I had a double whammy not long ago of a hen party getting on at Inverness already sloshed at noon, and cracking open the prosecco, followed by about 30 pissed up teenagers getting on at Nairn. The damage had already been done before they got on, banning drink on the train wouldn't have made any difference.

walk out the off license onto the street where you can't drink, into the station where you can't drink, get blootered on the train then off the other end to the street where you can't drink, into the fitbaw grund where you can't drink, pop into the bookies where you can't drink.  decide your hungry and need a substantial meal?

It's alcohol, not oxygen, ffs.

I honestly can't see why front line policing at least hasn't been prioritised. Same with the fire service.

No. They won't happen. And indeed the London marathon in its new date may not either. But I'm hoping / guessing that London Marathon people have been given assurances from government that there must be a decent chance for October. (certainly hope so)

ETA - On the flip side - Glastonbury now cancelled for this year. Although not surprising.

Guest Bob Mahelp

That utter dick of a man Ross allowed free reign on BBC every single day to make random claims about vaccination targets being missed, without his allegations being properly scrutinised.

Really sad story in the papers of a guy from dorset who was required to work at an anti-covid protest, has caught covid as a result of it and is now in hospital. Kinda sums up that the police essentially can’t really refuse to go and deal with something and have been given pretty much no protection. Front line health workers and the very vulnerable should undoubtedly be front of the line but there has to be consideration to other emergency services. I know a lot of police officers who are carers for elderly relatives etc and its causing a lot of anguish as they see every day at work as a risk of transmitting the virus to their family.

Is he standing in Moray for Holyrood in May after promising what a great deal Brexit would be for everyone? Must be shitting himself.

I see there’s talk that Furlough will be extended beyond April. Another sign that they’re in no great hurry to lift restrictions. Whilst folk are being paid to sit on their fat arses watching Netflix there won’t be any clamour to return to normal life (pre March 2020). Honestly can’t believe that people will still be happy to exist rather than live when the most vulnerable and elderly will or at least should have been vaccinated by then.

Absolutely deflated that it’s been weeks/months now since I was last allowed to go out beyond South Ayrshire and there’s no sign of that changing any time soon

His claim today that he knows there are "hundreds of thousands of doses sitting in Scottish warehouses" is bound to be scrutinised. He also accused an SG appointed contractor of being responsible for the delay in distribution. These are specific issues that certainly haven't been raised before but as usual with the BBC he wasn't pressed on the source etc and Harvey immediately after seemed to rubbish it.
