It's proven not to work.

Australia have a policy called No Jab, No Pay where people don't get child benefits unless their kids have the MMR jab and it has reduced uptake.

Yeah but you surely dont think that would stop our government from some half arsed, ham fisted attempt at it all the same though?

I’ve missed the conversation on this but the number of people in Scotland who belong to religious groups who refuse vaccines is minute, probably less than one or two thousand.
This. All the mainstream religions are promoting the vaccine. Any who claim a religious exemption are going to form part of an extremely small group.

On the wider point, religion is a bit unusual compared to the other protected characteristics as its the only one where the person has any significant degree of control over whether they have that characteristic (leaving aside the recent developments regarding sex). I'm not keen on religion intruding into public life but, on balance, its right that it is protected.

The vast majority of anti-vaxxers are probably 5G nutters and Facebook maws, both spectacularly desperate for attention at all times. The threat of a month's ban from social media or similar would probably have these fuckers queuing up begging to be jagged.

Isn’t that lateral flow?
Wife works in a school and has been told shel be getting LFTs home with her, same as NHS workers are currently getting.

I assume it will be a twice a week job.

It should be noted that it's still a week before they go back and as per the "choose your own vaccine" spreadsheet, they could be talking shite, so we'll believe the testing when it appears in the house.

I have a friend who is a teacher. He's signed up for it, but was saying to me it was voluntary, rather than mandatory, to do so.

You also manually enter the details onto a portal yourself.

I know everything is open to abuse, but that doesn't seem like a particularly watertight system.

Yeah we’ve been told that as of this week we all have packs of tests available to take away with us. Results recorded online but tests are not mandatory.

With a lot of staff still purely working from home, initially it is just people who are in the school building. One test a week if you are only in for a day or two, with two tests a week if you are in most days.

Hopefully we see results of any similar studies in weeks to come over here. Israel are further down the road with us in terms of full doses given but it does seem that the study is going with direct like-for-like comparisons in the two groups to reach that figure.

See once the first 9 groups are vaccinated, and we are into the huge pool of 18 to 50 with no health issues, how will they prioritise who gets vaccines?

Will the still work down by age, or will it move to a scenario more skewed towards "key workers"? I expect that to be the time where real heat starts to be applied by various industries to get their people done.

But of course its fantastic news.

If they're serious about some kind of vaccine passport there needs to be a fair way arrived at, especially if those passports are going to come into force before everyone is jagged.

They've been in lockdown since just before Christmas as it was out of control over there. Think it was meant to be eased up last week but not sure if that went ahead.

Hancock saying this morning that there are no plans for a domestic vaccine passport and that some countries will likely be asking for proof of vaccination before travel abroad in future which they will be setting a system up to comply with.

Unreal, the levels of mixed messages coming out of the government. Its now par for the course with them.

Yer da’s who refuse the vaccine because they think covid isn't real will vastly outnumber those who don’t want to get the vaccine for religious reasons.

True but we should also remember that the number of people who will refuse the vaccine on those grounds is very small, espeically in the vulnerable groups.  All surveys have shown that the group with the highest vaccine refusers are younger people.

I think the demand from media and online types that there will be loads of anti-vax sentiment in the UK isn't based on reality.  The voices opposing it are amplified far beyond their influence.

I think the only signficant religious groups that refuse vaccinations are the Christian Scientiests, some South African Dutch Protestant churches and then you are onto very fringe groups of ultra-Orthodox Jews and fundamentalist Muslims.

This seems incredibly unlikely to have travelled from here tbh.
We need someone to start the rumour that the "UK variant" actually originated in New Zealand.

Those Kiwis have handled this too well and could be doing with some bad press.

To be fair, anyone in a position of authority mooting a domestic vaccine passport ought to be removed from post. An incredibly stupid idea on many levels.

The America's cup is taking place in Auckland, there will be folk coming into New Zealand as part of crews, support and media. Hopefully Ben Ainslie brought it in and the hang him from the rigging.
