Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

Gutted for colleagues in the hospitality trade in Glasgow that they're going to be kept in Tier 3, given only a couple of days notice before reopening on Monday, after ordering stock, recruiting staff and taking existing staff off furlough, taking bookings, investing (once again) in Covid mitigations, and gearing up for the long-awaited re-opening of indoor hospitality.

Given all vulnerable cohorts 1-9 have had their first dose, a large proportion of whom have now had their second, and 2/3 of the adult population have now had a Covid jag, and that severe disease, hospitalisations and deaths have been practically eliminated by the vaccines, it's disappointing but not entirely surprising to see that case incidence is clearly going to continue to determine tiering levels in Scotland rather than hospitalisation / mortality stats, and that we're not actually all coming out of this together. Oh, that and the never-ending "new variants" scaremongering.

I assume the Scottish government are going to bring back Strategic Framework support grants for businesses that are ordered to close (or have had their trade significantly impaired by) government restrictions, and not just lob a token derisory amount of money to Creative Scotland to dish out to the usual suspects in a "highly competitive" application process as they've done with the arts sector.

So much for the recklessly optimistic thought that this will be the last lockdown....

Charts from Whitty showing that the increases in cases in Bolton and Blackburn are being driven by under 60s, who are less vaccinated. Government to respond by upping vaccine centre opening hours and speeding up vaccines in those areas.

Given the high level of vaccine coverage I’d guess this sort of measure can be taken without endangering the rest of the rollout.

They are keeping the status quo though, where as scotgov have pulled the rug from easings that are 3 days away.

IF the variant is SIGNIFICANTLY more transmissible....

It wont be. He is a politician buying wiggle room which is as surprising as the tide or the sunset.

It wont be more transmissible, hospitals numbers wont rise. He will change nothing.

They have been briefing to journalists this week that June 21st is in danger. It's not hard to tell what way the wind is blowing.

Highly predictable.

Watch East Renfrew join the party if their numbers continue to rise over the weekend.

That's just fucking typical. Case numbers low for weeks, then increase as soon as we're due to drop to level 2.  Numbers will definitely go up on Monday when people in Glasgow walk the 2 minutes to east ren for a pint indoors. All this with despite the low hospital numbers. Are the euros cancelled in Glasgow too? Might be now the elections won.

Boris has just been asked about that.  No delay to the rest of the rollout according to Whitty.

it was alleged there is a stockpile of 10m doses in the UK.  Get them into arms FFS.

proper heads gone from detournement now like

Never the less I think sturgeon has proper shat the bed here. she really needed to asses things and say level 2 will go ahead as planned.   the rules regarding personal behaviour won't be adhered to by the majority and businesses will suffer needlessly .

I said before, I hoped this press conference was to set the shreiking media straight. Thats what it was.

Boris Johnson is acknowledging that vaccines offer normality. Thats whats needed.

The political editor of the Times must not have got the message.

Surely the priority has to be vaccinations in Glasgow and then going by other high areas of cases given priority 1-9 have been done.

How horrendous for hospitality businesses.

Or they could just fire out vaccines as and when they're available, instead of sitting on stockpiles to use wherever there is a problem.

Scottish Cup final should be held at East End Park, maybe this might allow a few more in to watch.

Too simple a solution for the numbskulls organising things. 20 mins travel for both sets of fans. Free bridies. Unless of course they are painting the goalposts.

Are the Hibs fans teleporting from Leith?
