Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Looks like the Scottish government are "making up rules on the hoof because a sad story happened"

Makes you wonder what happens to people without a journo's contact diary and unaccustomed to talking to people in authority. They have to simplify the rules for compassionate exceptions and let everyone in the chain know about it.

My first thought would be convict - noun of convicted but maybe that’s a bit old fashioned.

Of course it would, but then as you've demonstrated neatly elsewhere, you're a bigoted boomer arsehole.

Labour want the self isolation exemption for the fully-vaccinated brought forward. I fully agree.

But then, I wasn't the one arguing earlier in the week that we need vaccine passports and a negative test to enter certain venues. More inconsistent and baffling messaging from a clueless opposition.

Yes I answered this before and said I would like the case rate to be much lower and I think mask wearing, ventilation and social distancing should remain.

Social distancing remaining = massive numbers of businesses economically unviable and state continuing to pay millions of peoples' wages.

All for a weird cough that means you might not be able to smell anything for a few weeks.

“Weird Cough” ?. Do you practice being pig ignorant, or is it just a god given talent you have ?

Don't know if you have heard about the coronavirus vaccine programme? It's been in the news quite a bit.

And I am exactly the opposite of pig ignorant since I had the weird cough disease two weeks ago.

Don't see why they bother keeping ICUs open for Covid patients tbh.

I know I am a bit touchy at the moment, but as both myself and my wife are locked into our house, both with  this “weird cough” I think I am entitled to be. Maybe if you had added to weird cough, days of high temperature, 24 hour vomiting, headache, aching joints, loss of taste and smell, no sleep etc, I might not have got annoyed reading your post.

We are both double jabbed.

Appreciate symptoms differ from person to person, but to just call it a “Weird Cough” is wat too simplistic.

State won’t  continue to pay wages.

Yes, it' was unpleasant and I was being flippant definitely.

I was locked into my house too. That wouldn't be the case long term for COViD cases. In terms of other symptoms, yes I was lucky. Also worth mentioning that the vaccine doesn't work for 10% of people. So they are still at risk of dying. But we need to think if that's enough to keep parts of the economy shut off.

When we were told the available vaccines were 90% effective against hospitalisations and deaths, there was jubilation. I heard noone say 'but what about the 10%?' or 'what about getting minor cases of COVID'. We have completely lost sight of why COVID is a problem- it can overwhelm health services and cause deaths if no treatment exists. But treatments do exist.

How does patronising them by calling them "clients" helping anyone?

Why don't we go the whole hog and call them Doctors or Knights of the Realm?

We may as well, those names are just as accurate as using "client".

I would use the word "inmate".

Perhaps using language which doesn’t belittle them, or reinforce their criminality may assist in their rehabilitation, which at the end of the day is the point.

Also, it may remind the prison officers that they are not there to “punish” the prisoners, but look after them.

The punishment element has already been taken care of by their incarceration.

An even bigger reason to end social distancing requirements

Social distancing requirements have already legally ended for most people in the UK.  Once Sunak pulls the plug on furlough it should be game over for the devolved governments.

He was in Scotland either yesterday or today and getting grief from the SNP about ending furlough.  You can draw your own conclusions about what they want to happen regarding restrictions.

Someone I'm mates with shared this on Twitter.

I am stunned they could be so stupid. How do you go about being a big conspiracy nutter but at the same time trust an Alexa. This past few years have properly fried some peoples brains.

Which specific language is belittling them?

I hope you are discussing this is good faith, so I’ll continue as if you are.

”Inmate” has 2 connotations - either a prisoner, or someone in a mental institution.  Neither is a positive one.

You’ve also ignored the point of the impact language has on the Prison Officer.
