ICTChris
Good banter in Czechia. Quote The 77-year-old is a heavy smoker and former heavy drinker who uses a wheelchair and suffers from diabetes. We need a Scottish leader like this, far more representative than most of our politicians.

vikingTON
The word 'former' being stretched beyond all meaning in that description of Zeman. I'm only surprised that the chair wasn't in automatic mode.

welshbairn
Looks like we should find out pretty soon how harmful it is compared to Delta given the accelerating number of cases. Quote The newly-discovered Omicron variant is likely to fuel a surge in South Africa’s coronavirus cases that could see daily infections treble this week, a top epidemiologist has warned. Agence France-Presse state that health monitors reported over 2,800 infections on Sunday, up from a daily average of 500 in the previous week and 275 the week before. “We can expect that higher transmissibility is likely and so we are going to get more cases quickly,” Dr Salim Abdool Karim said at an online health ministry press briefing. “I am expecting we will top over 10,000 cases by the end of the week per day (and) pressure on hospitals within the next two, three weeks.” “Even if Omicron is not clinically worse, and certainly the anecdotes don’t raise any red flags just yet... we are going to see (rising cases) in all likelihood because of the rapidity of transmission,” Karim said.

Elixir
So it's already here and spreading in the community - obviously - so she mewls about life wrecking and pointless travel restrictions again, among other things. She is absolutely vile.

Only, tbf, if we don't hit the panic button if cases rise. If it is less severe, then we can almost ignore cases. We could be looking at, essentially, a bad cold. Will be interesting to see what the reaction is if it really is highly transmissible, but mild. A real crossroads for our politicians this, tbh. They would do well to remember this isn't March 2020 IMO. The frenzy over the last few days helps no-one. If it turns out to be heehaw, then they look ridiculous, and have limited credibility should an actual issue crop up down the road. I don't think the current media frenzy, caveated with "we don't actually know yet tbh" or not, is helpful to anyone. If it turns out to be less severe than Delta we should be offering Joburgers discounted holidays in Scotland. In the meantime I don't see the problem with mild precautions in case it isn't, to give more time to adjust the vaccines. But its ok though Nicola got to give AOC a can of irn bru for some top quality bants and that. -
