What’s funny is I am not even saying you won’t ultimately be right and excess deaths and hospitalisations but for lockdown would not be unusual. I have no basis for my position that we and most Western European countries are adopting the correct approach, other than faith that the world’s epidemiologists and the World Health Organisation know more about pandemics than I.

I don't think we've much alternative to what we're doing, as the NHS is clearly f***ked if we don't, but the world's epidemiologists don't really agree at all on the best strategy, or even on what's really happening, which is disconcerting.

on 9th March Nicola Sturgeon

said that advice to self-isolate for those from vulnerable groups with symptoms “might be extended to people who have much more mild symptoms” but that it would “not be appropriate” as things stand.

She added: “Over the next couple of weeks that may change and therefore mild symptoms may become more indicative of coronavirus.

“At some stage, advising people with milder symptoms to stay at home is one of the things that people should perhaps expect.

So she went from suggesting that we might end up asking people with milder symptoms to self isolate for a while to imposing a police state lockdown within the space of 2 weeks

Is she wrong now or was she incompetent on the 9th March?

Do you think what has been happening in Italy for a few weeks is acceptable?

Should we just cope with those numbers?

The hospitals are struggling to safely dispose of the death. Are they all pretending? Or should we just suck that up?

Why focus just on Italy?

I don’t think it’s the worst film ever but considering what it was supposed to be it is the most disappointing. The last one was complete pish and confirmed the slide of the series into completely generic shoot em up space action dross.

The thing I kind of loved about the first two Alien movies was the sense that you were seeing a tiny piece of a much bigger story -the company, the space jockey, the origin of it all wasn’t explained but it gave the films a kind of resonance. The fact that the cast for those films were very much “everymen/women” (a working crew of a mining ship and a bunch of marines) added to that sense.

Explaining every little bit of the bad story and the overly grandiose way it was done makes those films worse than the sum of their parts.

I've only seen the first Alien film and I don't care for it, despite it containing lots of things I like.

Prometheus had potential I felt it was dumbed down for audiences that had yet to see the previous Alien films. I liked Noomi Rapace in the Millenium series she's a quality actress but in Prometheus she was miscast.

She was the sole redeeming feature of the piece tbh

Microbiologist on BBC News this morning saying that masks were completely pointless and those wearing scarves and snoods around their faces were actually putting themselves more at risk due to the material catching and holding bacteria.

When I was up getting checked out at hairmyres when this all kicked off they made me wear a mask. At one point I was struggling with it and the doc said something along the lines of Don't worry about me pal, as long as my mask is on you're OK, essentially pointing out that a mask stops you from infecting others rather than vice versa as people seem to think. Therefore, if every c**t wore a mask it would have a great benefit, but wearing a mask to stop others from infecting you is pointless.

In saying that, I do wear a mask when I'm out (I'm on immunotherapy so pretty high risk) and despite knowing all this there is a psychological benefit to it in that I feel safer with it on, despite knowing it is pretty ineffective. I realise this probably makes me dense as f**k and a borderline mouth breather but so be it.

It seems there is “Covid ultras” on here. You can’t say anything derogatory about it or the media hysteria being way overboard and scaremongering or you’ll get negged. Really don’t know why they’ve got such a lob on over it

Indeed.

The norm used to be to question everything that came out from the government and the mainstream media

Now it appears that it’s the norm to accept everything the government and the mainstream media say!
