parkcircus
Feel a bit for Darvel. The pitch is cracking and a great asset to the league and there’s not many capital investment programs that go well first time round. The park the Buffs play on cost £150k and took nearly 10 years to get the drainage sorted, this is our first year we’ve got it right, sand banding and weekly vertidraining, but that costs a fortune in equipment. The 300k Astro had a defective flaw and had to be relaid after 5 year at a cost of £180k The pitch behind the Astro cost £80k to build and was supposed to be for Killie to train on. They never used it and the vertidrainer can’t be run on it as it hits bricks and rubble 4inches under the surface. Clubs usually follow what the contractor tells them and mostly they are guessing, especially when it comes to drainage. What they will have is a cracking surface for decades to come once the teething issues are sorted. Might not be this season or next but it’ll eventually be fixed. You would think in this day and age you would be able to lay a new pitch with correct drainage but can understand some teething problems. Our pitch was bad down 1 side for years until we got it properly done and maintained.
Killiepiyo
Took Talbot a while to get the coal rd goal mouth fully sorted. Know little about pitches but what ive known is its a bit trial and error however much you spend. Looking at the weather it may run on a bit

The brick wall ground the park wouldn’t have helped, same issue for Maryhill

The contractors usually turn up in the summer to quote/plan a project, they’ll never have seen the water running down the hill in the middle of winter
sweep
Is the Darvel pitch drained into the river Irvine? If so the level of the river may play a part in water retention. It takes two or three years for new drainage to draw properly.
