Brighton record their first home win of the season with a 1-0 win over Spurs, who are pretty dismal without Kane. Bale played just over an hour and contributed very little.

I think the word dismal sums that performance up absolutely perfectly. Bale obviously can't be bothered playing for Spurs either and I don't see the point of Bergwijn at all.

Highly doubt Ben Davies is any improvement at all on Liverpool's reserve CBs, but that's pretty funny that Celtic have lost their first of next season's signings. They'll need to buy Shane Duffy now.

Lennon is actually saying that he's looking to bring him back next season.

Liverpool have signed Ben Davies from Preston.

Seems a bit of a strange one as they've needed another centre back for ages so it's not as if he's just a stop-gap until Van Dijk is back. He's 25 and never played any higher than the Championship.

Celtic were heavily rumoured to be in for him. Tremendous piece of trolling by Stevie G picking up the phone and calling in a favour.

It's an absolutely mental signing. Even at only a couple of million, just persevere with whatever youths you've got - or sign him weeks ago. It makes no sense.

thing is they can probably flog him if it doesnt work out for £10M+ anyway, so why not take the punt. win/win

Davies to Liverpool is a low risk and potentially high reward signing.  Even if he is average at this level then Liverpool could probably sell him on in a year or two.  They will be better off playing a mediocre natural centre back and Fabinho and Henderson back in the midfield than the alternative of playing Henderson at CB.  Phillips meanwhile is playing his way into the team (he was excellent against West Ham) so Davies will definitely be no more than a squad player once Van Dijk and Gomez get back next season.

Signing a championship level jobber is low risk - when you're going for the title?

What if he isn't average - what if he's terrible? You've just said they have a youth player who was excellent against West Ham (one of the form teams recently).
