Frank Grimes
Also, never did decide on play offs format What does everyone want? A simple second top plays second bottom in a two legged affair or do we want SPFL style play offs? I’ll run a poll
Stellaboz
As long as there's no relegation to the Highland/Lowland.
Frank Grimes
Turns out you can’t edit a post and put in a poll Will go with general consensus
Scorge
Your original proposal of two up two down automatically and a play off for A8/B3 and B8/C3 with the lower player taking white sounds best to me. Guarantees more fresh opposition each subsequent season and filters the natural pecking order quicker.

If more folk were to join in later seasons, you don't want better players being stuck in lower leagues for too long as well. I think chess is always more fun when you're playing people not too far from your own level. Edited February 10, 2021 by Gordon EF
Wee-Bey
Yeah, I vote for the 2 up/ 2 down plus a play off. Also up for a knock out cup.
Gordon EF
Aye, a cup would be great. Was just thinking about that as well. Can't wait for everyone to come on and say how pish every draw is as soon as it's been made. Edited February 10, 2021 by Gordon EF
Loki
Yeah a cup would be great as well. If 30 participants two to get a bye and 28 in the first round. For promotion I agree with two up and two down, but for the playoff I would stipulate the higher division goes white. Obviously a bit of lottery this season, but as the seasons go on it should reflect the ranking scores of everyone.
johnnydun
I think maybe 4 go up, 4 go down in this first season as we didn't know each others levels to begin with, this would even it out a bit quicker. Up for a cup like. Edited February 10, 2021 by johnnydun
Frank Grimes
If we’re doing a Cup, do we stick with normal Chess or do we go for 960?
die hard doonhamer
I'd also vote 2/2 + playoff. Up for a cup as well, which will also give those that couldn't commit to the full league a chance to get involved. I have no idea what 960 chess is, tbh.
keptie
2 up 2 down plus play off sounds good along with a cup game. No idea what 960 is either.
Scorge
960 is where the back row gets shuffled at random therefore the conventional wisdom regarding openings goes out of the window IIRC. Gameplay pretty much the same otherwise, but don't know how much that's going to throw folk off.
DiegoDiego
How about the cup is rapid time format?
Gordon EF
I'd vote for the Cup being on a timer and try to get the whole thing done over a weekend or something if it was possible. There'd be 5 rounds tops. Majority of folk would only play one or two games. Edited February 10, 2021 by Gordon EF
DeeTillEhDeh
Would prefer Blitz for a cup game
johnnydun
Not sure I would manage games on a timer. I'm a busy man.
Loki
960 for the cup seems like it would be chaotic fun. Timer might be difficult as we would all be available at different times.

I agree with Johnny 4 up/down the first season just to try and makes sure people can get the correct level quite quickly.
