I was more referring to people blaming the murder on the lockdown regulations. The rapist nickname isn’t his own doing though is it? I highly doubt higher ranking police officers were using this nickname when addressing him. If they found out that a name like that was going around they would be more concerned with putting a stop to the inapproaite name calling rather than investigating Couzens personality traits.

I’d have thought the nickname was in relation to his behaviour though. I can’t imagine they just decided to call him ‘the rapist’ out of nowhere.

I think the concern is that Met police officers, regardless of the level, thought that having someone perceived as a danger to women in their ranks was just a good laugh.

As for the police, they should ban male police officers from patrolling or making arrests without a female policer office being present to escort them and protect the public. If there's not enough female officers, then hire them. Any male officer having a problem with this should be desked or sacked. Certainly single police officers should banned from making arrests and this should be repeatedly broadcast to everyone in the country until everyone is aware of it.

Jesus Christ.

Well he got called it because he made female coworkers feel uneasy apparently.

The defence arguing that Couzens should get a lighter sentence (i.e. chance of parole at 80 rather than full life) because he didn't intend to murder Everard is some stance to take. The judge appears to be seen straight through that stating Couzens must have realised he may need to kill the woman he planed to kidnap and rape.

ETA: Judge states that whole life sentences should only be used in exceptional circumstances. In his judgement, misuse of a police officers role is considered exceptional. Couzens sentenced to a whole life term for the kidnap, rape and murder of Everard.

Clearly this is an exceptional case and the work nickname proved to be justified. But you can't go around launching investigations every time a colleague is given a tasteless name.

I could name dozens of nailed on weirdos on the floor I normally work on.

f**k the shout of giving him the death penalty. Stick him in with the general population with no protection.

I also feel sorry for his family (obviously her family more so). Two young kids and now have to deal with that for the rest of their life.

Should you be visiting pals during lockdown 👀👀 what does wee Nippy have to say?

Worth remembering the amount of victim-blaming that went on (not just on here) back when this was first coming out.

Imagine defending this piece of shit and having to say something akin to that with a straight face.

I understand that everyone has the right to legal counsel and a defender but at some point, you really ought to go 'f**k the money in this case', sit your client down and explain to them that there's simply no redemption, no way back in this case - that you will continue to be your client's mouthpiece for the duration of the trial but won't under any circumstances, be pushing for any sort of reduction.

Awful thing is, the poor girl most likely complied with him because she'd just came from her mate's so probably thought that's what she was getting arrested for.

It doesn't work like that. These cases can make careers. Get 10 years knocked off that sentence and you can start adding zeros to your fee.

Understandable, but I'd imagine a lawyer tasked with such a high-profile client and case is already pretty much made already in terms of their career and money.
