Boo Khaki
Terrifying that she's also regarded as more moderate and liberal than the current Home Secretary.

The next one should be a right laugh. By then, they'll be openly calling for withdrawal from the ECHR so we can begin flogging criminals again, and reintroducing debtors prisons.

williemillersmoustache
You'd be completely mad as f**k to try and watch or follow any of this but the endless fucking about, the constant forcing of ammendments with no hope of passing to a vote, the repeated points of order, the tabling of new ammendments then the whining about how long this is taking has to be some kind of parliamentary shitehousing record.

Been following a woman who’s been livetweeting the whole thing from inside Holyrood for the past two days (and deserves a medal); she’s doing so again today on this thread if that’s useful

Salt n Vinegar
Apparently the Secretary in a bit of a State about Scotland says that His most majestic crown wearer's Government may challenge the reforms.

UK Gov suggesting their reasoning is that Scottish trans people may move to England and apply for UK passports and benefits in their new gender. Seems like an utter bullshittery nonsensical rationale to me - doesnt pass the sniff test. If the UK govt block this bill (which is 100% under the remit of Holyrood), then any pretence at devolved democracy is blown away. All it will do in all probability is increase support for Indy. If the UK govt block this bill (which is 100% under the remit of Holyrood), then any pretence at devolved democracy is blown away. All it will do in all probability is increase support for Indy. Tory fannies Of course it's bullshit. Westminster does not recognise GRC, and this bill does nothing to force recognition of Scots GRC's upon them. If someone with a Scottish-issued GRC applies for a passport or makes a benefit claim in England in their GRC acquired gender, the application will be rejected and they'll have to reapply using their birth gender. That's it. No implications whatsoever for Westminster, reserved law, or the rest of the UK. If Westminster chooses to recognise Scots GRC's at some point in the future then that is entirely up to them. Of course, this will no doubt be twisted, and wilfully misrepresented in much the same way that GRC opponents are happy to do at every turn, hence the "MSP's support the rights of sex offenders over women" keech that has sprung up over the past few days.

Even if this It's crazy how out of touch our Washington DC imposed, Goldman Sachs banker billionaire Prime Minister is. There may be a point when the majority people stop thinking 'Why are our politicians so shitty?' and start thinking 'Why is the structure of our society so shitty'. It won't happen anytime soon though. There are still decades of trying to vote things better ahead of us.
