Yeah same boat for my father also, no time frame given just that its incurable. Its the third time he’s had cancer but totally different type every time strangely. I cant fault the health service tbh the second cancer was during covid and appointments seemed to be progressing swiftly enough.  @Inanimate Carbon RodI hope treatment etc is moving swiftly now for your father as the waiting for news of treatment is stressful when you hear scare stories every week in the press.

ETA - also RIP @Jimi ShandrixI had no idea he was ill till I seen this today, sorry for your loss @Rapid Pie Movementand thanks for coming on here to let us know.

Thank you so much for that post, i hope your auld man is doing ok?
My dad got a ‘Tase’ procedure done a couple of weeks ago, after a good bit of being messed about, but that said the actual consultant in charge of his care now is genuinely fantastic and we couldnt be more thankful. He said something to do with the radiologist was incredibly happy so far with the procedure and hoping that its gone very well. I know its selfish but i just want my dad around for as long as possible, cant imagine life without him, but as he’s saying and as the thread goes hes living with cancer, his positivity has got us all through this so far tbh.

So sorry to hear about jimi, he came across as a nice guy and my thoughts are with all his loved ones. Its fucking shite :(.

This disease, man. So sorry to hear about @Jimi Shandrix. I can remember him posting on the old Junior thread. He was excited when his team Broughty got to the semi final of the Scottish Junior Cup only for it to get cancelled for Covid. Kept hoping, for him, that it would get played at some point but sadly didn't.

Echo what has been said about @Rapid Pie Movement taking time to let us know here. Hopefully the responses show his family and friends that his posting on here was worthwhile and meaningful to plenty of people. Chin up, pal.

Hello everybody

I'm very sorry to tell everyone on here that my dear friend Steven, known to all of you on here as @Jimi Shandrix, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love last night (Tuesday).

I last spoke to him on Saturday morning, when he was excitedly awaiting the France-England game. He managed to watch it, but sadly began slipping away from us shortly afterwards. Typical Smiley (as I and many others called him), waiting for England to get beat!

I know how highly thought of he was on here and rightly so. He really was an amazing person, and an absolutely wonderful friend to me and so many others. We're all going to miss him terribly, but are thankful that we had him in our lives.

I know he loved being part of this community, and I think it's amazing what you have all built up here. He took a lot of strength from it,  which I'm sure helped him find the incredible courage he showed facing up to this horrible disease. So on behalf of Steven, his family and friends, thank you for the support you showed him. It meant so much to him.

Lots of love to you all

Alan

I'm really gutted to read this.

I shared good banter and some good tunes with  @Jimi Shandrix

He came across as a really switched on guy.

Thanks Alan for sharing this with us.

I had a routine follow-up scan a few weeks ago and in simple footballing terms this is what ensued...

The referee studied the pitchside screen, saw nothing wrong, and with a few reassuring words waved play on. However, the standside radiographer waved his flag indicating he had seen a possible enfringement in the box. As a result the referee called in VAR to check. As you know, getting a VAR decision takes a very long time, so I'm in a very long queue waiting for the video ref to take out his camera and look to see if there has been an offence up the tunnel. Some time next year. Meanwhile developing symptoms and a Faecal Immunochemical Test suggest that I may be looking at a penalty. So the GP is trying to help me jump the queue.

Or, to put things differently, as Rory Gallagher once sang...

Good luck - make sure you save the penalty then break upfield and win the game!

Not been on P&B much over the past couple of weeks and just spotted this thread. Can only add to what others have said. I didn’t know Jimi but had various interactions with him on this and other threads. He came over as a really nice guy and it’s really sad to read that he has passed away. Condolences to his loved ones.

Thank you for the update @Rapid Pie Movement , I think we'd all hoped for a better outcome but @Jimi Shandrix seemed to take it all in his stride.

I hope his family take some comfort that he was a very popular poster in a fairly loopy tribal forum.

As many have pointed out he had a brilliant input on the music forum and will be very missed, all the more so as a fellow Dee.

RIP Steven.

  • 3 weeks later...

See when someone is diagnosed and innthe stage of awaiting treatment, who is good to speak to for help/advice etc?

I have a family member in this boat and they are struggling with not feeling supported.

Does anyone recommend a route other than the named McMillan nurse? This particular one don't seem to be the best at communication

I had a dedicated nurse specialising in cancer who I could contact at any time, but I don't suppose that's much use to you.

Are McMillan nurses not for the terminally ill?
